Off topic, but when am I ever on topic. Family member is displaying symptoms of being extremely ill and refusing to see a doctor. Can I get a doctor to come and see her? Can she refuse tests etc?

Anyone can refuse treatment but there's nothing to stop you ringing a doctor to ask them to come out. It happened with my Dad but he did talk to the doctor when she arrived. Unfortunately it was too late as he died of cancer 6 weeks later but at least I knew I'd done my best for him.

As above with the calling the doc out, but depending on the symptoms I would call an ambulance.

came to see my Mum on my Stepdad's request. I was shocked, she has lost about 3 stone in 6 weeks, looks guant. Sits in a chair all day, massive effort for her to move, refuses to eat and is being sick every half hour. She keps slumping forward and falling asleep and is extremely bad tempered. Sorry to post such a personal thread but am very worried

That's awful.

Definately call the doctor and explain symptoms and her reluctance to see them. They will know what is best - they will either come and see her or call the ambulance straight away. Good luck.

As someone with a medical background I strongly recommend you call an ambulance immediately, that sounds serious and you may well save her life. Do it now please!

Seconded : The ambulance crew will be well used to dealing with confused , frightened , stroppy and disorientated people , and will be skilled at persuading them to get in the vehicle.

local doctors are just salesmen for the pharma corps........they are not healers. look at the symptoms, and look at natural or alternative options - ones been around for centuries.

so many ppl rely on pharma for everything.

Just shown this thread to my wife, a district nurse, and she agrees with that course of action.

Oh and brunswick, f*** off please. We'll have a discussion about the evils of BigPharm another day.

With respect, I couldn't help thinking of Dara O'briains stand up quips regarding 'alternative medicine'.

We know alternative medicines have been around for centuries, we TESTED them and the ones that WORK we made into MEDICINES, whilst the rest became pot pourri and soup !!!

I hope that all goes well re: the OP.

When I had to call an ambulance for my missus when she started randomly passing out the ambulance said I needed her consent to get the ambulance to come out or something on those lines which she refused, so I gather that they won't take someone to the hospital without their consent, unless of course it is an emergency. Getting the doctor out is definitely the best bet, or give NHS Direct a call and see what they make of her symptoms- maybe she will be more accepting that she has to see someone if it comes directly from a doctor.
Best wishes Nibble, hope everything turns out for the best.

This.

my dad was having chest pains and lost the feel in his left arm, doctor came and checked him out and said its because he doesn't get enough excisise. My brother came round the next day and dad was having the same symptoms and my brother rang 999. 10 minutes later the ambulance turned up and put him on a machine then straight to hospital.

He had blocked artirys going to his heart. The doctors at the hospital said he's lucky to survive and asked for the doctors name.

I can't thank my brother enough.
