Administration

If a club was to survive this season and go into administration during the summer would the Football League:
(a) deduct the 10 points from season 04/05 and if appropriate relegate that side rather than the team that finished in the bottom 3.
(b) Start season 05/06 with minus 10 points in which ever division they are in.
(c) Take no action as it hasn't affected any results during season 04/05 or 05/06.

So if a club signed one or two players on transfer dealine day and in so doing avoided relegation then had their wages paid for by the PFA that is all perfectly above board and OK. They would get no comeback whatsoever for cheating the system.

yes.

But then no.

They wouldnt be punished this season, but would start next season on -10, so they still would be punished.

A couple of seasons ago we were all chatting on NSC about the probability that a number of clubs would go to the wall that season, think it must have been the season before last as there was speculation that we might not be relegated as the first division would finish with fewer clubs. I find it amazing, and somewhat reassuring, that this did not happen and that despite a few well publicised cases; Leicester, Leeds and Wrexham spring to mind, we have still not seen a club fail completely.

The problem of how the league should handle the administration thing is a difficult one, I am not sure that the deduction of points is the right answer. If you look at the case of Wrexham, add back the 10 points that were deducted and they would be several places above relegation, they have won quite a few more games than all those around them. In this case it is the players, and supporters, who are being penalised for the failings of the management, I cannot think of any other industry where this would be the case, unless of course like in the case of Rover it went to the wall.

Let it go, BG, let's earn our survival on the pitch as we did the 3rd Div Championship. Good luck to Cardiff for whatever they have to do. They have enough troubles waiting for them in the future without wishing more on them.

It is sad that a rule that was brought in to stop clubs coming down from the Premiership and claiming poverty is going to effect a deserving case like Wrexham.

I am not wishing more troubles on Cardiff just pointing out what a stupid rule this is and the ridiculous manner in which it is used.

i.e The 10 points should be deducted from the season in which they were relevant to not next season as in Cardiffs case they unlike Wrexham have 12 months to put it right and 46 games to make up those 10 points.

I am a great believer that rules are there to be bent, as in Cardiffs case, but not broken and if you make a rule make certain that you can implement it or dont make the rule in the first place.

I believe that we will pick up another 7 points this season so it will n ot affect us that is provided MM stops playing Virgo up front and plays him in defence.

I suppose (hypothetically) there is nothing to stop an already relegated club going into administration to get rid of some debts and taking the points penalty in a season where it doesn't make any difference.
