I know that he is criticised a lot, but I for one will be glad to see Adam Virgo restored to the side on Saturday at Scunthorpe, where we will come under heavy pressure from the home side.

Virgo works hard for the cause and has scored many goals for us (whether playing at the back or up front) that have saved or won matches. In fact, I can’t remember his scoring a goal for us that hasn’t been decisive. From memory (please add to the list if you can think of more of Virgo’s decisive goals), I offer you the following.

Swindon (H) 2003/04 Play-off semi-final L 1-2 but won on pens
Coventry (H) 2004/05 D 1-1
Leicester (A) 2004/05 W 1-0
Forest (A) 2004/05 W 1-0
Ipswich (H) 2004/05 D 1-1 (the goal that kept us in the Championship)
Crewe (A) 2008/09 W 2-1
Millwall (A) 2008/09 W 1-0

We would not have stayed in the Championship in 2004/05 without Virgo’s goals, half of which were scored playing in defence.
I think he could be our most important player for the rest of this season.

There'll be none of this right midfield rubbish from Slade. I hope he gets back to centre back ASAP.

He lives a few doors down from me and i say hello to him when i see him. He is a really nice, genuine hard working guy who would do anything for this club. Hes been placed at right back, centre back, defensive midfield, central midfield, right wing and upfront and that is the reason he has been so inconsistent.

Slade needs to place him at centre back with Elphick and leave it at that until the end of the season and im fairly confident that partnership would go a long way towards keeping us up.

Told us what, that Virgo should play ?
Don't think that was ever a question. But as we knew then and know now, he can ONLY play at CB.

At a time when Virgs was taking a lot of stick from fans, I said that he woud prove to be one of our most important players for the rest of the season.

I've never heard Virgo himself get stick, obviously lots of people have been frustrated with him being played everywhere except his best/only good position, not with Virgo himself. At least that's how I saw it.

Well he stank against Swindon and Oldham, but was terrific against Stockport (as was Elphick).
