Is he any good with a football? Perhaps we could play him down the left wing. With Will Buckley on the right we'd have the two fastest wingers in the league!! :D

Put up a thread about this just after race which i got up early for (in NZ currently), got completely ignored haha. However I am glad everyone else is noting and giving him praise due! I doubt he will hit sub 10 for another 2 years as don't think the drive will be there, Olympics is just a party event for him, I imagine he will a 10.10 and reach semis as fastest qualifier. Motivation will be alot lower next year as with no Huge events. Maybe a pb but i don't think sub 10. I think world championships 2014 he will hit 9.90s and then i think his progression will keep going, could be a genuine contender for Rio 2016 though. So exciting! Seeing a genuine world class 100m british sprinter would be the pinnacle of sport for me, only matched by a England/Brighton title triumph or perhaps a British heavyweight boxer knocking out a klitschko. Nothing matches the buzz. All respect to the other british athletes by the way, think we are going to get a big haul at Barcelona by the end of week, Sawyers, Judd, Dudgeon, Gladman, Bryes, Bolarinwa,Desiree Henry, Johnson-Thompson, and the two 100m relay squads are genuine medalist prospects. THE GOLDEN AGE OF BRITISH SPORT.

The wind in his race was +0.1 m/s, if it was closer to the +2.0 m/s allowed he would have gone very near or under the 10 sec. barrier.

He sounds like a fantastic prospect. Just hope all the sports media don't start putting pressure on him to get a medal in the olympics this year. That's always the kiss of death.

All the best to the lad, but "hero" is a strange choice of words. In what way is he a hero ?

Well he has just won at the World Junior Champs. That's a tidy effort, and is quite uplifting especially given our horrible lack of sprinting talent.

He wont not even close to the time really, unless the rest false start he will make the semi i think but thats about it, if he gets to the final then well done to the lad.

No doubt, but personally I would use the word to describe someone who has done something spectacular, usually for someone else. Odd usage of the word IMO, that's all.

Brilliant effort from the kid. It is a good job that he was released by Chelsea otherwise he wouldn,t be where he is today in the sprinting world. They have Alex Kiwomya on their books who ran 10.9 at 14 in winning the English Schools a year or so back.

The problem will be when he gets to the semi,s (fingers crossed) and has the fast boys alongside him. It is then when you can sometimes push to hard, fail to relax and your times suffer. What a talent though and not a hint of cockiness about him, just a big beaming smile when the camera hits him and no silly gestures...........
7th on the all time UK list now.

As someone who doesn't have any idea of the expected progression of sprinters through their athletic lives, does he really have any chance of seriously competing with the Jamaicans, Americans et al in a few years time?

No one can predict improvement rates in sprinters but he would need to go at least 2 tenths faster to medal at the worlds or Olympics in ideal conditions. He could do it but impossible to predict if any athlete can take those last times off. Harry AA took the same title but he won't ever get anywhere near a major final one suspects. He is faster than the Jamaican Blake was at the same age and he will probably be favourite in London for the 100 m if Bolts hamstring carries on playing up.

Exactly what I was about to reply. Harry Aikines-Aryeetey won this same title, and consistently beat Bolt at this age.

Great potential though. Best of luck to the boy.

As for the Olympics this year, if conditions are decent, you'd need to run close to 9.80 to get a BRONZE.

In the last week, 4 athletes have run sub 9.90 in qualifying (3 Jamaica, 2 US). Add in Lemaitre as well, and this final is going to be seriously quick..
