Met him a few times. Lovely chap, nothing like his football hard man persona. Friendly and smart. Glad he's found work locally to continue in football.
He was my sons Albion hero as he grew up. At 7 years old he mastered the patronising pat on the head as he helpfully pulled members of the opposition off of the floor after taking them out.
He met AEA at the first kids Christmas party at the Amex, he must have spent a good 20 minutes chatting to my boy about the art of defending and the mind games to play with anyone he played against.
My son adopted the number 6 shirt as his own because of the great man.

He trains at my gym and is an outrageously handsome bloke and a gent.
Between him and Knocky sometimes training in there, it was like seeing different species. He's a beast - looks fitter and stronger than any of the squad were under Slade. Hard to know whether to feel inspired or demoralised when you're a pencil-necked geek, but a nice novelty all the same.

Easily one of my favourite Albion players of all time because of his off the scale improvement under Poyet.
I've seen Ward, Lawrenson, Foster and the rest but I'll always remember the conversion of El Abd from a lower league kick it high and long lump into a confident modern ball playing defender.

I don't recollect ever seeing a player so lacking in natural ability. I used to squirm as I watched him struggling to play a two yard pass to a player that was wearing our stripes. I couldn't question his commitment to the cause, but he looked as comfortable on the ball as an elephant on a bicycle. Having seen Lawrenson in his heyday playing in the same position, I was no fan of Adam El Abd.

And yet when Poyet turned up he said AEA was the best player in the squad and gave him a new contract. I know who I'd believe.
Poyet was a fantastic manager. Look at what he's achieved since he left The Albion. The list is endless.

Got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning (sorry, not you Rodney)? When Poyet was at his peak with us, most Brighton fans thought he was a brilliant manager and we were lucky to have him. It didn't end well, but that's the case with many managerial departures. But it was a great trip while he was here.

You obviously didn't go to many games pre2013. I've seen vast amounts of midfielders who were less composed on the ball.

Having shared the men’s changing room at The Triangle In BH with him a couple of years ago I’d say he was still looking very good!

Played some very good football against some very good players whilst we were in the Championship. Poyet, of course was the catalyst, but it was Adam's desire to constantly improve and his unshakeable belief that he could mix it at a high level that gave him the terrific mid to late career surge that he had. One of the most intelligent defenders I've seen for us.

When he broke through he was sometimes a right back, sometimes a left back, occasionally holding midfield and even rarer he would be a centre back. He smashed in the beauty against Leyton Orient but otherwise he was a bit of a joke. Filling in all over the show without any real quality in any of the positions (the original Solly March?!).
But then Gus Poyet came in and spotted his quality, made him a centre back and coached him to be absolutely brilliant. Winning player of the season in that League 1 dominating campaign is a remarkable achievement. Sad for Elliott Bennett, Glenn Murray, Ashley Barnes, Liam Bridcutt, Casper Ankergren, Marcos Painter, Inigo Calderon and Gary Dicker - but he was absolutely the right winner.
