I think its going to become a real accident blackspot - there's no getting away from the fact that the stadium IS quite distracting. I can hardly help gawping at it when I drive past.

I started a kind of tongue-in-cheek thread on this exact subject a few months ago after a couple of shunts had happened there soon after the first arch went up. I don't feel right bouncing it now some poor sod has lost his life there.

:(

The last update

A27 Eastbound entry slip road closed due to serious accident, a vehicle and a cyclist involved at A270 Lewes Road.
Note change of location. By the University underpass. The emergency services are attending the scene.
Ongoing since around 12:15. Speed sensors indicate traffic is coping well in the area.

???
Traffic coping well even though it's closed?

This one has nothing to do with the stadium, it was closer to the underpass.

But that's only just before the stadium.

Somebody looking at the stadium instead of the traffic when changing lanes?

Is that your view or official?

It is mainly one long cycle lane along there though... Apart from the roads turning into Stanmer Park or the Uni isn't it?

Just after there Trigs.
I would take the underpass being right at the entrance of Sx Uni - between the A270 joining the A27, and the bridge.

I don't believe there has been a statement released yet, or at least not by the time I finished work, so it's not official, no.

Yes. I cycle there with my 7-year-daughter as I reckon it's perfectly safe - may have to revise that idea now

The ins and outs of that will be investigated in due course.

Other than that all I can really say at the moment is that there was no reason whatsoever to suspect this incident to be in any way connected to the presence of the stadium.

I went all the way along there to Lewes on Sunday, was planning on doing it tomorrow as well but the weather could put me off (rain forecast).

I would say definitely not due to someone looking at the Stadium due to location, because it was near to the road improvement works and the stadium would have been hidden by the A27 flyover.

I drove past that area earlier today (opposite carriageway heading into Brighton) and the road was closed and blocked by a Police car which was there preventing people from driving down the stretch of road heading between Carden Avenue and the A27 - (stretch by the roadworks)

Heading back via the A27, there was no traffic was emerging from the University side of that road to join onto the A27 so i assume that stretch was still closed about 3/4 hr later, this would also suggest the incident occurred on the other side of the flyover as there were no signs of an accident.
