Human rights act is the worst thing we have ever signed up to.

What about our Human Rights as tax payers on deporting foreign criminals from our country. Unbelievable when you think about the soldiers on the front line fighting the very people he supports, and yet they get the worst deal of all. Something needs to change and fast. Anyway I am going to shut up now just in case I offend someone, because that's how bad it has got in the UK even though it is clearly wrong.

However the self same Court (nothing to do with the EU by the way) has found in favour of "life meaning life" sentences. Will this somehow cause the Daily Mail to overheat and explode in confusion as to how to deal with this in their headlines tomorrow?

Who mentioned anything about it being something to do with the EU? Anyway, I digress, this sort of decision is the reason people want to rewrite thr Human rights act, he is bang to rights , and I doubt most people ( this being the sort of people who dont put the world to rights over a deliciously cold pinot grigio in a hanover pub) give a toss whether the information was obtained under torture.

If he can't be deported leave him somewhere less populated to fend for himself where somebody may take a pot shot at him. What about one of the Falkland islands.

What exactly can the ECHR do to us if we ignore them ? As has been mentioned , this is nothing to do with the EU, we are a sovereign nation (just) , tell them to go and f*** themselves, they cant do a thing about it.
I'm sure the usual " we are showing how civilised we are" brigade will be on defending the decision, well they're kidding themselves, all we are doing is showing weakness and reinforcing their convictions and arguments, its our foolish adherence to decisions like these that make us a laughing stock.

How much has this all cost

Abu Qatada legal fight

2001: Qatada goes on the run to avoid being detained without charge
2002: Tracked down and taken to Belmarsh prison
2005: Freed as detention ruled unlawful - but placed on control order
2005: UK decides to deport him to Jordan - detained again
2008: Court of Appeal blocks deportation
2009: Law Lords back deportation - Qatada appeals to the European Court of Human Rights

guessing on legal aid.

I really don't get this the more I read.

-So, he comes here ILLEGALLY on a forged passport
-Supports 9/11 and the killing of non-believers
-We're not allowed to send him home - because he might have a hard time (even though, for some reason, we've spent a fortune assuring that he doesn't.)

That seems fair enough to me....

and 911 and 77 was also supported by members of western intell and government.

he seems to misinterperate the koran, but freedom of speech anyone? what has he actually done wrong? passports are a control mechanism for profit anyway.

it seems to me like another pys-ops to create more "anti-muslim" feeling as the west soon wade into syria and then possibly iran. take the bait right wing foot fans......sigh.

I think his case is an unfortunate by-product of a very sensible piece of legislation.

Due to prison overcrowding they could always put him in a cell shared with a 25 stone BNP skinhead.
