If Liverpool had been chucked out of the UK would our clubs have been banned from European football after the Heysel match?!
Palace would have played Euro football in 1991 if Liverpool hadnt been allowed back...

This just goes to show the Tory mindset, and this was from Geoffrey Howe, who was not even a right wing Tory..... sometimes I think that even Oswald Mosely at least cared for the country compared to the likes of Thatch, Tebbitt, Cameron and Osborne
* if you delete Watford and Man Utd's League results against Liverpool that season.
Slow day by chance ? Can't even believe you could be bothered to work that out !
A somewhat ironic post considering Thatcher and Heseltine both rejected the daft idea - both very strong right wingers.
tbh the old bastard was probably to the left of tony blair, as was john major, probably. Everythings gone mad I tell ya still, at least we've got footieOh dear, schoolboy error ! Heseltine was very much to the left of the Tory party and was famous for trying to make the Tories more centralist and pro European. He was also was the person who triggered Thatch's resignation and stormed out of the cabinet over the Westland affair.
True to being a One Nation Tory, Heseltine seems to have had moral reasons for rejecting the 'abandon Liverpool' approach. It would be interesting to find out whether it was this or political expediency that led Thatcher to reject it.
If we want to read the BBC...
