High Risk Age Groups: People between the ages of 15 and 24 and over 75 are the groups most likely affected by car accidents
You say teenagers will most likely become a better driver, but that does not take away that year in year out they are the most likely to be involved in car accidents. Older drivers are seen as safe drivers, however because of their age are more likely to die in a car accident. The way forward would surely be to ask drivers who have been involved in a accident that is deemed their fault, to have some sort of retest/training paid by them before they get back behind the wheel. Better to address the poor driving standards, whatever the age, then to pick out one age group.

Problem is then you are only stopping people driving after they've had an accident, rather than trying to do it preemptively through stricter controls.

OK I'm going to come clean. I was only in my late 20's when I came onto the A24 from Copsale going to Horsham. I turned right and drove for a bout 30 seconds in what was the fast lane of the southbound dual carriageway. Luckily there was not much traffic about and a car on the inside lane was flashing me when it suddenly dawned on me. I was able to do a quick U-turn and recover the situation. Still leaves me in a cold sweat when I think about it all these years later. In my defence though there was a small wood between the carriageways which you had to negotiate. The junction has been changed nowadays I think.

Not this morning but a number of years ago coming back from Swansea game I was driving along the M4 and encountered a car traveling the wrong way. Luckily (and still god knows how) I didnt hit him head on ,

Had a similar experience a few years back on Littlehampton Road in Worthing. Heading East from the Yeoman roundabout there is a sweeping bling bend on the dual carriageway. I was accelerating in the outside lane when, around the bend, heads an old dear driving quite happily towards me. Luckily the car I had just overtaken was far enough back to allow me to swerve into the inside land and miss this old dear. It scared the crap out of me as a couple of seconds earlier and I wouldn't have have anywhere to go andwould have hit her head on.
