Have to agree it was a great song in it's day and never heard these days..I wonder why

I didn't know it was a Jonathan King song. It's a protest song about the atom bomb.

It was indeed written and produced by J King.

All bar one of the members met and formed the group whilst serving with the RAF hence the name (an allusion to low flying) but as such were not an officila RAF band.

here are the lyrics

It's good news week,
Someone's dropped a bomb somewhere,
Contaminating atmosphere
And blackening the sky,
It's good news week,
Someones found a way to give,
The rotting dead a will to live,
Go on and never die.

Have you heard the news?
What did it say?
Who's won that race?
What's the weather like today?

It's good news week,
Families shake the need for gold,
By stimulating birth control,
We're wanting less to eat.

It's good news week,
Doctors finding many ways,
Of wrapping brains in metal trays,
To keep us from the heat.

It's good news week,
Someone's dropped a bomb somewhere,
Contaminating atmosphere
And blackening the sky,
It's good news week,
Someones found a way to give,
The rotting dead a will to live,
Go on and never die.

Have you heard the news?
What did it say?
Who's won that race?
What's the weather like today?
(what's the weather like today?)

It's good news week,
Families shake the need for gold,
By stimulating birth control,
We're wanting less to eat.

It's good news week,
Doctors finding many ways,
Of wrapping brains in metal trays,
To keep us from the heat.

To keep us from the heat.

To keep us from the heat.

Yes, you're quite correct, they used to work with Canberra bombers, and yes music's second most famous kiddie fiddler did produce them.

I've always liked Eve of Destruction:

The eastern world it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin',
You're old enough to kill but not for votin',
You don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Don't you understand, what I'm trying to say?
Can't you feel the fears that I'm feeling today?
If the button is pushed, there's no running away,
There'll be no one to save with the world in a grave,
Take a look around you, boy, it's bound to scare you, boy,
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin',
I'm sittin' here, just contemplatin',
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation,
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation,
And marches alone can't bring integration,
When human respect is disintegratin',
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin',
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China!
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama!
Ah, you may leave here, for four days in space,
But when your return, it's the same old place,
The poundin' of the drums, the pride and disgrace,
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace,
Hate your next-door-neighbour, but don't forget to say grace,
And you tell me over and over and over and over again my friend,
you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.
you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

Surprisingly, given all the things that need protesting about, there aint that many decent modern ones.

ones I like are,

Blackened: Metallica
Beds are Burning: Midnight oil..in fact anything by them is a protest song.
Army Dreamers: Kate Bush
California Uber Alles: Dead Kennedys
Die For Your Country: Anti Flag
When September Ends: Green Day

You could actually add American Idiot to that list.

Inner City Blues
All by Marvin Gaye
In fact the whole of the "What's Going On " album was a protest against the way Mankind is destroying the Earth. Written nearly 40 years ago but still so relevant today.
