A thread of protest songs

I feel like making an itunes playlist of protest songs:

so far:

Edge of destruction - Barry(?) Something
For what it's worth - Buffalo Springfield
What's going on - 4 non-blondes
War - Edwin Starr
Southern Man - Neil Young
99 Balloons - Nina

...and hit a wall. Especially looking for protest songs that aren't 60s hippy stuff but gladly take any suggestions.

Except that Boy George song that goes something like "boy, war is stupid and people are stupid" which is a terrible song by a bloke that's had far more than his 15 minutes worh and should now just f*** off.

Or... 'Career Opportunities' by The Clash.

Sample lyrics:

They offered me the office, offered me the shop
They said I'd better take anything they'd got
Do you wanna make tea at the BBC?
Do you wanna be, do you really wanna be a cop?

 - knew you wouldn't disappoint, Tom!

Does Kirsty MacColl New England count?

If not then Interesting Drug will do as she sang backing on that one.

Way out west
Pretty much anything by Billy Bragg in his early days was protesting, or at least making comment, about the way the Tories were ruling the country and how much of the press supported their right wing ideals.

Seems bloody obvious now, doesn't it!! I had a complete mental block and was thinking - didn't anybody protest after the 60s?

Elvis Costello, Throbbing Gristle (what a band), Tom Robinson...

hmmm...a tad leftfield, which reminds me of Open Up (great track), but well worth the addition.

In that case, Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumours. Quite why some people despise Basildon's finest is beyond me.
