Uruguay:

-was the first Latin American country to legalise same-sex civil unions, in 2007 :D
-has won more FIFA World Cups than England
-doesn't really like Argentina very much

Just a few Uru-facts for you

2 more fascinating URU-FACTS:

Gnocchi (known as "ñoquis") is traditionally eaten on the 29th day of each month. This was the day before payday, when people were at their poorest. Gnocchi made a cheap meal prepared from only mashed potatores and flour and provided a hearty meal. On these occasions, some people leave a coin or a banknote under the plate to attract prosperity.

Diego Forlan - twice winner of the European Golden Shoe (BOOT!) - is Uruguayan!

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I see the endangered species of Uruguay are the Giant Armadillo, the Giant Otter and the Strange Big-eared Brown Bat. That's my kinda country, and the sort you might find on Land of the Giants.

Danny Bergara.

He was Stockport's manager for six years, a lovely bloke, slightly potty, but as passionate about football as you could ever hope to meet.

He gave a talk once that I attended, and spoke for an hour, without any notes, about his experiences of football in South America, Spain and England. Totally captivating, crazy accent, and very knowledgeable.
