Fab's death was effectively 'the death of music' thread closed out of respect I think, nothing else is going to come close, not Lennon, Mel from Mel and Kim, Keith Moon, Brian Jones or anyone.
Just tragic, Richie Valens aged 17 begged to get on a plane after a concert in mid winter, out of Clearlake and on the toss of a coin took Tommy Allsups place for his 1st ever plane journey and died 1/2 hour later in the crash that also killed the Big Bopper (Chantilly Lace) and Buddy Holly.
Can't believe that no-one's mentioned Eddie Cochran!
Died April 17th, 1960, at just 21.
Eddie died in a car crash (a taxi) in England (Gene Vincent was with him, but survived), the taxi along with all the contents was impounded at the local police station where Dave Harman (aka Dave Dee of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich) was a cadet and taught himself guitar on Eddie's from the crash. The guitar had been carried to the car by Mark Field, later to become Mark Bolan.

I have to say this was way before my time so I did not know that he'd died so young, especially that it was before Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay actually came out.
A lot of the time songs do better than they should after someone has died, simply because they have died but clearly this isn't the case with this one cos it's one of mine and many of my mates all time favourite tunes and I don't supose any of them knew he died before it came out. Absolute CLASSIC
