well at least this isn't a sporting event we can lose...cos without david millar we've absolutely no chance whatever. what for me is the unltimate sporting contest starts this weekend with lance armstrong attempting a sixth win. if anyone has read his autobiography you'll know that it's amnazing that this man is alive, let alone winning.

after my triumphant London -> Brighton in 5hours AND conquering the puny Turners Hill and not so puny Ditchling Beacon, I can see myself watching this. Used to love it as a kid and even had my own red racing bike which I used to do laps of Southwick Green on....marvelous "lets Pretend" memorys

Look out for me in a Brighton shirt (among the many tens of thousands of other spectators) somewhere up the Alpe d'Huez on July 21st. If Armstrong isn't already race leader by a country mile at the bottom of that mountain, I reckon he will be by the time he reaches the top.

personally i think this could be ullrich's year, but you're spot on about the alpe d'huez!

Of the favourites, Hamilton and Ullrich seem to have been going better than Armstrong in the build up. Think Iban (Kerry) Mayo isn't strong enough in the time trials to win, although he has improved.

Me thinks he mat be a little distracted this year to win ala sheryl Crow !! Mr Ullrich if the weight is right

Last year he had the distraction of a crumbling marriage and that didn't seem to cause him too many problems! But I agree that if Ullrich can sort out his eating problems then he'll yet again be a strong contender.

Stage 15 up the Alpe d'uez will be amazing especially with Lance and Ulrich, 15.5km going up hill worse than ditchling beacon

millar is definitely out, barred rather than banned over the cofidis epo scandal....

As I said to a friend of mine who was recovering from cancer, the trouble with Lance Armstrong is if you don't now go out and win the tour-de-france you're going to look like a loser.

This tour i think , favours the individual more ..esp the alpe d'huez time trial .. no strong team to help you along the way ...Overal not taking anything away from Mr ARmstrong ,but he had a strong us postal team as well !!

Time trial deficit has been limited this year to 2.5 mins giving Mayo a much better chance.

He's my fave.

I can see Armstrong doing it again, latest drug allegations notwithstanding. His entire year is built around the TDF, so not figuring so well in the lead up events won't bother him in the least.

July each year sees almost my entire years allocation of Eurosport viewing

I'll be cheering him on, that's for sure, particularly now there's no Millar to follow either.
