Excluding The Oval to Lords, which 2 first class cricket grounds are the nearest but in separate counties?
I don't know the answer.

Or alternatively

Guess who's route to Reading took him through Arundel and Guildford?

and for a bonus prize
Guess what they were thinking when driving through Guildford?

I know you said excluded ,but The Oval to Uxbridge Cricket ground [Middlesex CC] would be about 17 miles .
I've made a tiny but important adjustment to the question.

So without even going up North it's safe to say Guildford and Arundel are merely distance cousins.

Gloucester (Bristol) and Somerset (one day cricket in Bath)

Wait- isn't Bristol (ignoring the old county of Avon thing) in Somerset? Why do Gloucestershire play there?

You could say that there was only 17 miles between the old Hastings ground and The Saffrons in Eastbourne. And how about Hove and The Manor Ground in Worthing where county cricket was also played.

If we're going old,The Officers Cricket Ground Aldershot hosted County Cricket until the late 40's and that lies around 10 Miles from Guildford's Woodbridge Road .

I believe the thread was about two different counties.

If you include Minor Counties as well as First Class, the answer is ZERO miles. Dean Park in Bournemouth was used by Hampshire until the county boundary changes and is now used by Dorset.

Derby and Nottingham must be close too.
