Sainsburys acting surprised after lengthy negotiations over the piece of their car park required for this development. Very good!

I'm prepared to bow to your cynicism, especially as Sainsbury have recent form absolutely fcking over football clubs, I just took the words from that local paper:

http://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/...g-sainsburys-store-unaware-crystal-876440.amp

"Crystal Palace announcing plans for a massive redevelopment of Selhurst Park on Monday (November 4) appears to have caught the neighbouring Sainsbury's, which is likely to be affected by the plans, by surprise, as the supermarket chain says it was not aware of what is being proposed."

Falmer was a greenfield site. Selhurst has many neighbours some of whom play hardball. Presumably a large part of the budget is land acquisition.

It's the Croydon Advertiser. For comparison, think Argus. The word "appear" is lazy journalese. Dig deeper and you will find that lengthy talks have been going on.

It is possible (but very unlikely) that Sainsburys never asked themselves what Palace wanted to do with the piece of land.

It's a final stages negotiating stance, both sides are squaring up to each other.

You know nothing about playing hardball till you've locked horns with Lewes District Council, Falmer Parish Council and various tweed-clad bearded conservationist groups for 12 years.

The new stand will make Selhurst :

25% decent
50% just about fit for purpose
25% absolute pit

It's a start.

Exactly. Better than what it is now, so its progress. Imagine if we did have a shiny new bowl like everyone else, just wouldnt feel right. Perennial scrappers always punk:

After Tuesday, LOADS of your mingmongs have described it as being "not fit for purpose, shouldn't have a safety certificate, completely inaccessible" blah blah.

On Saturday it took me 35 minutes to leave home 8 miles away and get the 2 trains to the stadium (got there about 1.45 and enjoyed a few pints on the concourse). Coming back I was hopping off at my local station at 5.45, so around an hour after the final whistle. Trains were a little slow coming back, but clearing a crowd of 30k+ I don't expect to be back in half an hour.

Its an utter MYTH that its problematic to get to and from. As long as the trains are behaving, its fine. I appreciate that may not be a Palace fans experience, but then your mob are a special case and have to be corralled. I don't really care about that, its not my problem.

100% this. I find getting to and from The AMEX no problem at all, but this involves thinking it through. The Palace "mingmongs" (good word) would also have no problem if they didn't pretend they were on a military invasion of Brighton and mob-up on West Street. This means they get kettled and escorted (late) to the station like a flock of fat bald sheep.

Exactly.
Anyone with even the slightest MODICUM of intelligence would know to avoid the town centre at all cost, or submit yourself to being chucked in the worst pub in Brighton, then frogmarched out and herded around at the whim of Sussex Police. As it happens, it sounds like the police royally bollocksed it up by rounding them up at about 6pm, then parading the hapless goons around town for an hour+ before eventually herding them into the station and on towards Falmer, but cutting it VERY fine before kickoff.

Its been discussed at length elsewhere anyway. But bloody hell, how THICK do you have to be to get yourself involved with all that malarkey ? You just know they'll do it all again in January though, as their fans show plutonium enriched weapons-grade levels of BUFFOONERY (and then they'll all blame the Amex again, for being a mighty 3 stops away from Brighton).

I just don't get how the redevelopment of one stand can cost so much.

It will be because planning constraints dictate that the materials used must blend in with the existing build. Some of those materials will be difficult to source since most date back as far the 1980s.

Amex Capacity: 30,750

New Selhurst Capacity: 34,000

I see no one has mentioned this. The Whitehorse will also get done in the second phase when the Main stand is completed. It was designed to have 2 tiers and all is needed is to have the houses Behind the stand CPOd. God only knows what will happen to the Arthur but the main stand is not the end of the redevelopment. One step at a time.

lol

cant beat us on or off the pitch so you have now decided to top trump seat numbers. (and its not even a given you will get it or sell it)

Yeah, and MFI went bust about 10 years ago.
