Couldn't see it mentioned elsewhere but the BBC South report after the ten o'clock news really pissed me off last night.

The interviewer interupted DK saying "but people don't want it at Falmer", to which DK did respond well, but then they cut to "the idealic picturesque country setting of the pond at Falmer" and the "beautiful ploughed fields amongst miles of countryside"

If I didn't know any better just seeing that report would make me believe that the pond was going to be dug up and the ploughed fields taken from the farmers and turned into car parks.

I understand that the BBC have to be seen to show both sides of the equation but last nights report was ridiclious. Only saving grace I surpose was the fact that Charlton were not playing last night, otherwise the would have been no report at all.

Well perhaps this report will annoy you some more.

Nice shot of the pond where the stadium is to be built!

And a quote from a NIMBY saying there isn't any parking, clearly the poor chap has not heard about the park and ride facilities that are to be included - wasn't it the bus stop in the AONB that caused all the fuss in the first place?

Location Location
Every single time the TV reports show pictures of Falmer, its always, without fail, the view looking directly south over the rolling hills, completely ignoring the A27 and the university buildings immediately adjacent to the east and north. Anyone who doesn't know the area would be under the impression that we are trying to build a stadium smack bang in the middle of some idyllic beauty spot, whereas a slight pan of the camera to the left or right would show the true picture of this area.

Irritating.

It's not really negative reporting, just cleverly selective. The councillor gets about 4 lines, the rest of report explains how bad Withdean is for fans. They have not responded to the nimby "no transport" view, they have left it open (DKs reponse does not directly address the parking "problem", but mentions the planning process).

If you think the report is factually incorrect, then you should contact the BBC website and tell them.

The report isn't factually incorrect, but it could be argued that it is factually incomplete. Not worth worrying about to be honest - I was only trying to back up the original post in terms of how the Falmer site is portrayed.

I was on a high after the march, the feel good factor, seeing so many Albion fans (and others) showing unity etc etc, then when is see the local news and it was basically, this is the quaint village of Falmer, this is the real rural english village and pond and it will soon become a monsterous football stadium!

Very very very poor report last night (think it was BBC not ITV), very anti Falmer stadium, very pro the NIMBYS. The reported interupted Knight in his interview with "yes but peopel dont want the stadium at Falmer". Yes a handful dont, look at the 60,000 who voted for it in a referendum and look at the 7,000 people marching behind you!!!!! Tw8T!

Anyway better get back to work as off to Leicester at lunch time

Meridian wasn't any better. Did mention the fact that the A27 runs along the bottom of the site, and the universtiy buildings, but then the usual shots of rolling sussex countryside and that bloody pond with the church in the background!

there is independent reporting and then there is keeping to the facts: like the 60,000 voting in the referendum, the ELECTED council and MPs supporting it. The local plan supporting it! And of couse filming the actual site and not another location.

What really hacked me off was that the report stated that the stadium was to be built in Falmer Village. They did not show the muddy field with a few concrete buildings at the bottom where it will actually be built:angry: The BBC must be employing retired estate agents with the photoshots they show. As Mr Blobby will no doubt concur, they are very good at making houses in the busy roads around West Hoathly look like country cottages down rural lanes. Take for example the one at Tyes Cross on the way to Forest Row, where two heavily trafficked roads intersect. The agents made it look like it was in the back of beyond!!

Done, it had to be quick,

Dear Anthony,

Whilst I accept the need for television reporting to be neutral and independent. There is also a need to keeping to the facts. Your reporting yesterday of the march contained quips from your reporter "but people don't want it at Falmer". This can be assessed as biased to the no lobby since over 60,000 residents in a local referendum voted for the stadium at Falmer and only 700 against. In addition the ELECTED council and MPs are supporting it. No local elected officials are against it, which indicated the low level of support against the stadium. The local planning plan also supports it!
If you are also going to film the location of the new stadium please use the actual location and not a site nearby, which only pupose was to portray that the stadium will blight some idyllic dream, which it certainly will not. Again, this filming contravenes neutral reporting!

Apparently he is out of the office but you can phone him on his mobile!
