If you're into music, I can highly recommend this series from KLOS which breaks down songs to individual tracks often revealing previously unheard elements and studio tricks.

It's an American radio show, so you need to get past the accents, but the English-born pro knows his stuff and throws in loads of fun anecdotes.

This is just a small selection...

A Flock Of Seagulls - "I Ran"

Blimey! Saw the thread title and just assumed that Harry Wilson's tackle had started Harry's Happy Hour a bit earlier than usual

I was tempted to reply, along the lines of my being surprised the OP was so keen on MOR pop, but thought better of it. Ooops!

I just received in the post the latest 'She Past Away' CD which, ironically, was sent from Greece (this is a Turkish synthipop duo) and have been thinking about whether to start a thread about musical irony, but I interrupted my thought stream with a smashing swim at Herne Bay, and am prompted to reconsider this only because of your post. I am sure that the whole of NSC will be grateful to you when I kick the new thread off later

I pulled out some examples which I thought might interest others.

Is there such a thing as "MOR pop"?

There were some good tracks in there. Couldn't resist pulling the old plonk, though. Hope all's well in sweaty south London.

Thanks for sharing. Just listened to the A-ha breakdown - amazing how much goes into a song you just didn't realise was there.

Listening to the Toto one, very good stuff indeed.

I've not listened to that yet but I watching the Sky Arts series "The Art of Drumming" and they absolutely RAVED about how complex the drumming on that track is. I would never have noticed it before.

The drumming is raved about on this pod too. Fascinating stuff, think I am going to work my through this archive. Also note to self, watch Art of Drumming on Sky Arts.

Great stuff, and strange to hear Americans with a sense of humour.

At the end of the Born To Run episode 'If you haven't seen Bruce live, no one counts to 4 better'

After that thread title I thought their boys had had one hell of a beating.

Art of series on Sky arts is great. There are some great tracks dissected on soundcloud.

Rio . . .bass line!

https://soundcloud.com/theklossessions/fhf-rio

2 weeks to do the vocals becasue after every sentence he had to shag a super model

The Rio breakdown is one of my favourites (wish he'd do more 80s pop) but he made a couple of factual errors which was sloppy.

I think it is fair to say that A-HA, Take on Me is the greatest ever pop song written. It sounds as fresh today as it did in 1985. I simply never tire of hearing it
