Last night was a decent win, no room for complaints (although I'm sure somebody will). However, to keep it in perspective remember that Gillingham's away form has been atrocious so far this season so let's not get carried away. These are the teams we should be beating and it looks now that we are. I think three points at struggling Tranmere will cement our position and quieten the doubters.

Gillingham's away form is atrocious-but our home form has not been too good so it was an important win for us.

.........and just think,if the game had been played on the original date we'd have been away from the bottom four then, and the point at Yeovil would have looked better, and there would have been fewer Slade out threads (even the tongue in cheek ones.)

I was suprised at how good Gillingham were tbh, I was expecting a bunch of cloggers. They played some nice football and were very pacy upfront. the defence did well against them overall imo. Another entertaining game with a few nailbiting moments

Their home form is good but their away form is the worst in the division.

It was much needed boost and certainly a good result but I hope that every team that comes to Withdean is as poor at attacking, they had pace but no bite. Other than I save which was offside, granted FDM didint know that when he made it, and 1 scamble off of the line they didnt have a shot on goal. The most difficult thing Kuipers had to do was catch the ball from a cross.

I'd credit our defence on the night as Gillingham seemed to carry quite a threat to me, we just snuffed them out. There were quite a few last ditch tackles that saved some dangerous crosses getting in..

That is what their attack consisted of crosses and no shots and yes our defence did play well to stop them shooting.

Lots of pluses from the match. I thought the midfield was better - Thornhill didn't have an outstanding game but he covered a lot of ground and his industry helped to make us look particularly solid. Hoyte and McNulty proved that full backs hold the key to many of our attacking options - something that Russell may need to address in the January window (at RB I mean). The team changes and substitutions showed just what a strong squad we have. This will work to our advantage as the season progresses.

Eh ? No shots and yet 'our defence did play well to stop them shooting', pardon ?

Kuipers didnt have a shot to save during 88 minutes of the game due to our defence not allowing them to shoot and their inability to do anything other than try to put in crosses which again our defence nullified.

Best game in ages, we actually played like a team and Bennett looks like a superb buy, pace, skill and the ability to put a cross/free-kick/corner where he wants, something we've lacked of late, find another winger like him please.
With McNulty and Hoyte at the back we look reasonably solid, no room for sentiment either as the previous Albion players (the ones who let Slade down) will find it harder and harder to get a game, hopefully we can keep Hoyte for the season.
Now actually looking forward to Oldham and Hartlepool, although I fear they will pack the midfield and go for a bore draw but hopefully we use the width again to beat them.:albion2:
