I just had a quick root around the bottom of my rucksack. Lying around in the detritus at the bottom I found:

Presumably the club would leap to the assumption that I'm some sort of Polish industrial espionage agent and would immediately call the police to have me deported.

Just pray we don't play Legia Warszawa in Europe next season.

If I read it I would agree. However seeing it first hand, the family were very well spoken and just one look at them and anyone could tell there was no problem here whatsoever. I think in the first instance there's been an absolute jobsworth somewhere and from there on in nobody can back down (unless of course you've got a spare £191).

I've also been on here since the year dot and I'm really not in the habit of making things up.

No. I’m not doubting you but people (not you) are quick to pile in and criticise the club. I do feel sorry for the customer/fan facing staff who have to implement the rules. Maybe the family will contact the club and get a satisfactory resolution.

There’s a difference between a bloke who supports Liverpool in the home end and a family with young kids with split loyalties, IMO.

Hmm. I think there’s more to this story than we know. I was sat in the West Upper trying to find my Man City bag, which I carry odds and sods in, had disappeared for whatever reason.

Fair enough, you might be right. I am being trusting. But there was a story of a family with split kids offering to buy a Brighton shirt to cover a Liverpool one and then I’ve heard a similar story from someone I know. Just seems like a big coincidence if it’s not what’s happening.

It seems a common sense solution but it clearly isn’t. How do you train temp stewards, up to what age is it allowable, does a steward have to monitor the kid to stop him turning his shirt back the right way once inside, etc, etc.??

We cant make up the rules as we go along and with 30k people trying to enter the stadium in under 2 hours there’s no time for negotiating

Young Albion lad notices his cheapskate parents have bought him north stand tickets for his birthday. Angry that his parents think this is all he's worth he pops a Man City carrier in his rucksack and hey presto....he's in hospitality. This lad will go far.

The simplest explanation would be that at some point one of them had been to an away day or otherwise been in Manchester and bought something there.

A letter for a previous occupier of the house that I meant to return to sender and apparently forgot about,
An NHS leaflet about preventing blood clots after surgery,
A single sheet from a work permit application,
Some tap cartridges (admittedly I just bought those),
A train ticket from Rouen to Dieppe, or possibly vice versa, I've already forgotten.
And a load of other crap.

Okay. But I noticed that you didn't deny that your are, in fact, a Polish spy...

In the tradition of the classic NSC ' Joke du Jour ' I think the real truth of this story needs to be told

For me at least, quite possible nobody else will care! I had to go to the ticket office before the game, in front of me was a family and the man at the front was getting quite irate.

A bit of presumption here but I guess the man was the grandfather or father of the two kids who were 6 & 9. The lady with them was their mother, the kids were head to toe in Brighton gear (full kit and scarves) and face paint on. The mother and (possibly) grandfather also had Brighton gear on. They were being taken for one of their birthdays and the lady was calmly explaining that she was really sorry but didn't think they would be allowed in.

They had gone to drop their rucksack at the bag drop, I assume the bag gets checked there. In the bag was a Man City carrier bag screwed up in the bottom which made them a 'security risk'. A supervisor comes along and takes over at the counter, he's really sorry but can't do anything. But however, and here's the genius but from the club, he can offer them an upgrade to hospitality where they naturally don't care who you support as you have more money. The man looks at the kids, one of whom is in tears and gets his credit card out and the club relieves him of another £191.

FFS Poor parenting and obviously too rich. Commit to the Albion or send them off to boarding school where some solid discipline and buggery might make them realise the error of their ways!

I had a story along the same lines told to me by Mrs Wz last week. One of our friends, from Liverpool, a Liverpool fan who used to do that King and Queen thing got a ticket in the West Stand for the Cup match.

Apparently (according to Mrs Wz), they had a drink in the west stand concourse and when coming up the steps back into the stand got 'barged' by some old bloke. When they said 'be careful' to the man, he replied by shouting 'F*** off' at them. I suggested to Mrs Wz that maybe her friend had made the mistake of identifying themself as Liverpool during the first half.

Mrs Wz insisted they hadn't, but knowing the person involved, I'm wondering whether to come down on the side of the Albion fan, rather than our friend, because I know she can be a bit mouthy a times

Sadly, it has always been thus. I went to school in Eastbourne with friends who supported Spurs, ManU, Liverpool etc. Basically anyone other than the Albion. This was even when we were in the old First Division and playing in FA Cup finals! Nearest professional club to where you were born: to my mind you don't really get to choose your club.

Seems odd. I was in the East Upper for the Liverpool cup game, and there was a kid there in a Liverpool top. His family had Brighton gear, and a gave them a disappointed glare and head shake.
