We are footie fans and if this time next season the players that get brought in have lead us to the League 1 title then we will forget for awhile the players that had to go to make way for them. However if the players that come in are a load of old tosh and we struggle all season, then we will be giving Wendy grief for getting rid of them.

He's proven himself with the signings in the last year.

He's pruned out older (and more expensive) players along with some who will never make it. This is standard stuff at the end of the season.

Let's judge the man by the signings and how well they perform.

Well some may agree, some may disagree with his decisions with player contracts. But the majority I believe were the correct decisions with the club at heart. The experienced three will all be Albion legends though.

You need a blend of both. In the past we have had a few too many youth teamers to make a good balance, but with the likes of Cox, Fraser, Lynch, Elphick, El Abd and Robinson in the first team squad we're reaping the benefit. Would be good to have a few experienced pro's proven at upper league one / championship level but still in their 20's to help bring the next crop through, whoever they are.

When Wilkins took charge I thought we'd end up with the whole youth team becoming the first team regardless of how good/bad they turned out to be. Although it's sad for the players concerned I'm pleased to see that he's made his decisions this week on the grounds of who he thinks is good enough, rather than whether he brought them through the club.

Depends on our ambition next season, I reckon that 2008-9 is our target season to go balls out for the championship, ahead of Falmer, to attract the type of players and opposition we will need to fill the gaff. This year was too soon but we still pushed pretty well and, if we hadn't self destructed with contract haggling, I reckon we would have been easily in the playoffs.

Dick has a plan I'm sure of it so I expect to see some more experienced pros, a lá Forster, coming in to get us out of L1 rather than more kids to build for the future.

Our squad has definitely improved since Wilkins took over from McGhee in 2006. While some of the players that we have released were good servants to the club, for too many years we have re-signed players due to appearance clauses in contracts or for sentimental reasons rather than for footballing reasons. Glad that this is finally changing, and there is great emphasis on quality rather than on youth/rewarding players who used to be good seasons ago.

I agree on every one. You can't continue giving contracts out of sympathy, and Mayo's had about three on that basis so can't really complain now. Well done Wilkins for being the first manager to stand up and say enough is enough, and clear out players who won't contribute anything. My only complaint is perhaps the way it was all dealt with. I wouldn't have allowed a legend like Hart and a quality performer like Butters to leave without a goodbye to the crowd v Swansea. If the players he brings in are rubbish so be it. At least we'll have failed trying than failed with the same old mob.

Well Hart still has a farewell appearance with his testimonial, and hopefully Butters will get a cameo role in that.

It's the same as we've seen since Wilkins arrived. Lose the less technical players, it's a positive step IMO.

I get the impression Wilkins is trying to do what Arsenal have been doing for years. Hopefully he'll be successful.
