9/11. Where were you.

Mrs Coach

aka Jesus H. Woman
Just about to pick up the kids from school and noticed that the 'film' I'd noticed in the background on tv, whilst I was hoovering, hadn't changed it's picture (of the towers) for a few minutes. Then I realised it was actually 'breaking news' and not a disaster movie at all.
I walked over to the school and told the other mothers who hadn't seen the tv, and most of them didn't believe me. They thought it must be a hoax.

Mrs Coach.

Me, just working,

New York Geezer was in one of the towers up around the 50th floor!

A few of you might have seen him on TV - talking - afterwards as we (NY) mourned a couple of Albion fans lossed that day.

I was at school and when I came home very briefly for lunch, my brother told me what had happened. I didn't have time to understand the magnitude of the situation, but when I got home at the end of the day, it was plain to see that it was much worse than I expected.

On a train...
I was working in Central Brighton at the time, and I saw it on the TV's that were in the break room.

I told a colleague of mine, who became very worried because his daughter lived there. Luckily she called him a day or so later to tell him she was okay, and was uptown at the time of the attacks.

Whatever happened to Zig?

I was at school -- didn't know anything about it. Got home and switched tv on for the usual Ceefax P302 check, but never got that far. Saw (i think) the second tower collapse - didn't really understand it at the time, i thought we were at war! Not knowing much about the World Trade Centre didn't help. Selfish of me also, but i was concerned the Southampton match would be called off, as i'd be looking forward to it from the moment the draw was made.

It wasn't until the day after that i really began to understand what had happened.:nono:

Had been watching BBC News24 when it came in as breaking news.

Had the day off from my holiday job, so saw every second.

At college that day, no news of it until I heard something mentioned on the Radio (Chris Moyles I think) when calling in at budgens on the way back to Haywards Heath station.

Then watched it all unfold in the Park View before the game, back when it used to be a respectable pre-match pub. A match that should NEVER have been played. I remember European matches that week were subsequently called off, why they couldn't send Southampton back down the road I have no idea. No atmosphere, no-one cared.

Had a day off work for some reason, remember I was in the car and a sketchy report coming on the radio as breaking news that there was a fire at the world trade centre and it may have been hit by a plane.
Got indoors just before the second one hit and watched it unfold from there.
One of those days that you knew was utterly massive and would change the world.

at work , on the net which was very slow. As it unfolded it became more and more terrible

Remember the cup game in the eve , had pre match drinks watching the footage in the sx potter. That game was a very eery atmosphere

I had the day off work to travel down for the Southampton game. I'd just arrived for a bit of pre-match shopping in Churchill Square when my husband rang me to tell me. I then noticed a large crowd gathered outside a electrical shop, watching the drama unfold on the tv screens. I then spent a panicky few hours trying to contact my brother and sister-in-law, who lived in NYC and both worked near the WTC, before finding out that they were ok.

The match that evening was played in a very surreal atmosphere.

NYG here - had to reregister as NYG (2), but the same person.

Thanks for the kind thoughts LB and regard to all, especially all who were in contact in the immediate aftermath. Too many emotions to put down really but special thoughts go out to the Eatons and to all who got involved in the NYC events soon after, including of couse, the Robert/Albion shirt ceremony at Union Square, and the efforts to meet up with REMF guys. Zig seems to have completely vanished - I don't know if he is in the UK or back in the US. Come back Zig we miss you - especially the daily battles with Dwayne!

The whole story of the evacuation from the 63rd floor of 1 WTC, collapse of 2 WTC as I was right beneath it, the chaotic days which followed and then life in Lower Manhattan for the next 2 years will never be forgotten. Can't say much more now, too many thoughts.

I was in an all-day meeting at work (trying unsuccessfully to save the company) and so none of us knew it was happening until about 5.30 in the afternoon, so the first I learned was listening to the radio in the car, and then I sat up long into the night to watch it unfold.

I went to ground Zero 2 years ago and looked up Robert's name, it was wierd, I never knew him and I needed to look for his name - strangely emotional.

:albion:

I was having lunch in the Cactus canteen in the Lanes, went home and watched it all unfold in front of my eyes, truly shocking scenes, what really troubled Me was that not more than 15 mins after the second tower came crashing down You had all the self loathing Islington elite, champagne socialists on state television(BBC) saying things like "They had it coming"and"blame Americas foreign policy"
What a bunch of ****s.

I was working away in Leeds.

Evil no doubt cast its shadow over NYC that morning, but from what I have read, glimpses of what humanity should be were also shown many times by selfless people in the WTC.

Glad to read your posting NY geezer and God Bless Robert Eaton.
