Blimey, not another thread where our resident Guardian readers are now going to lecture us for 120 pages on how the 2nd World War was the fault of the Western powers due to perceived appeasement towards Germany in the aftermath of the 1st war....... I am out....enjoy.

But we haven't had a global conflict since then. Doesn't that show that we have learned something!

We haven't had a global conflict but we still have conflicts all over the globe.
There was more learnt from the Cuban missile crisis ( early 60's ) when we were minutes from nuclear launch. The ' Cold War ' threatened global stability but thankfully the powers to be weighed up the consequences and the buttons weren't pushed. That was the most significant moment post 1945.

'Perceived appeasement'? Are you saying that wasn't Chamberlin's policy towards Hitler prior to the war, whether or not he had an alternative at the time?

I certainly agree that it was the most significant point but did they draw back because of the lessons learnt previously and knowing that at that time they did possess the power to destroy the world.

Exactly what else do you think he EU should do? If not sanctions, which weren't imposed on Hitler, the alternative would be to send force into Ukraine!
Sanction Gazprom, and Putin Huilo will withdraw his forces from Ukraine within the month.

Russia has been an EU observer for years and years now. They have no interest in joining.

Our fans in Gdańsk prepared a patriotic display to commemorate the anniversary, during the game against Ruch Chorzów yesterday...

... doesn't look that impressive on the telly, but it was breathtaking when the entire stadium sang the national anthem.

Glory to the fallen heroes, they will never be forgotten!
