I have been working on a book this year (my first), which is now complete, and will be published in October.

50 Years of Football in Focus - Books - Ammonite Press

The publisher's blurb...

Football is the international language. The Beautiful Game evokes passion on the scale of religious fanaticism, and this book oozes the essence of football club loyalty and hero worship, captures and replays breathtaking and memorable goals, witnesses dastardly fouls and controversial send-offs. Archive photographs present a gallery of the game’s best-loved players – the heroes and the anti-heroes – and iconic managers, and the fervour of their adoring fans. These are the elements that transport diehard fans on a ticket to Planet Football for those precious 90 minutes.

FOOTBALL IN FOCUS is a fascinating, quirky, idiosyncratic and intimate snapshot of the past 50 years of British soccer, presented in more than 250 images snapped by some of Europe’s foremost photographers, and selected from the Offside Sports Photography collection by leading sports photographers.

The publishers, Ammonite Press, have kindly said that they are happy, through myself, to donate some of the proceeds from the pre-publication sales of this book towards REMF.

To this end, the RRP is £16.99, but can offer the book at a pre-publication price of £12.00 per copy, of which £3.00 per copy will go to REMF. This offer is valid until October 1. If you are interested, or would like to know more, PM me, and I will give you the pre-order details.

Cheers.

Actually I now realise it is a collection of photos, so TLO do you right a "piece" per photo of commentary ?

They're from an archive from a sports photography company called 'Offside'. They've got hundreds of thousands of images in their library to choose from, going back to the 1950s, and some beyond that.

I researched and chose (most of) the images, and wrote a caption of between 30 and 70 words for each.

What it doesn't say on the blurb is that it's split into five chapters - Players, Managers, Fans, Venues, Matches and each chapter is chronological from 1960 to 2010.

The book is a result of an arrangement between the publisher and the photographic agency, whereby the former has access to the latter's library in order to publish the book.

The original choices of the images was down to the agency's top fella, but once we got into the project (or rather, once I started delving deeper and realising I had access to their entire library), he left it to me to choose some different images. He was more than happy with that because it meant he could concentrate on being a professional photographer.

But in answer to your original question, no I am not. But the man who started the project is.

I have a book like this. It has a picture of Norman Wisdom on the pitch at the Goldstone in it.

Its what I'd call a reception of coffee table book.
