FA Cup First Round

Torquay United 3-1 Aston Villa

Colchester United 3-0 Ringmer, yes Ringmer

Ringmer claimed to be the first "village" club to reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup

Yes, the Caburn Field was a lovely little ground with a great clubhouse.
I think they have a new ground behind Ringmer College.

Yes they do, you are correct, clubhouse was definitely a good one.
I was working in a house recently and the Caburn backed onto the garden, sad to see the old ground being dug up.

I think I saw you there and lent you a fiver :)

Yes. I didn't have my hoop and stick money to get home!
£ 5? That would be worth about £ 500 in today's money!!

1970 you say. A year or two before my first Albion game I think but I so remember Ringmer getting into the FA Cup with my Uncle being part of the club and all the coaches going to the game.

Yeah, I was wondering whether anyone on NSC ever went to the Ringmer game. How many supporters did they take? The full village of 30 odd?

Incidentally Albion's team on that day (in good old 2-3-5 formation and thanks to Tim Carder & Roger Harris) was

Brian Powney; Stewart Henderson, John Templeman; Ian Goodwin, John Napier, Norman Gall; Howard Wilkinson, Alan Gilliver, Kit Napier, Bobby Smith (the Second), Peter O'Sullivan. Sub: Colin Woffinden.

Woffinden came on and scored his only goal for the Albion, I think.
