Bit surprised to see us line up with 3 centre halves yesterday.
Got the points and well pleased and Coppell obvously knows far more then me but still surprised.
I prefer our 4-4-2 style and feel a lot more comfortable and felt that the back 3 looked a bit unsure where to go.
Watson does not overlap as well down the right sometimes we lacked width. Also some long balls down our channels had us in trouble, like when Roberts came out and that could have been worse. At times the middle 3 did not push on enough to support the front 2 and Knight and Henderson were quite a distant apart.
Did we play 5-3-2 in any friendlies ? I saw the Crawley and Leicester games and don't recall us trying it.
Any views.
I know we got 3 points and that is all that matters and we shouldn't moan.
Will we play the same at home ? or is it an away tactic ?

I agree, 4-4-2 is better, but we shouldnt have a set formation, we should alternate it.

I reckon we'll play the 5-3-2 formation for the away games, and probably the togher home ones like QPR & Brizzle City.

For most home games I expect us to go 4-4-2, bringing Harty (or Kanchelskis?) in for one of the Centre backs.

I reckon Coppell played safe with 5-3-2 against a team that were very much an unknown quantity. I for one was fearful that they'd have the 'wounded animal' mentality. I think this was on SC's mind as well. (I know, I should be manager! )

For the main part this season, including QPR next week, I think we'll play 4-4-2. Firstly because it is Coppell's favoured formation in this division, and secondly because we should be going out attacking the teams we're going to be playing, we're better than them. 5-3-2 was necessary in Division 1 because we were always the underdogs in games and needed strength at the back.

For a really good 4-4-2 though I still think we need a proper left winger. Jonah just doesn't do it for me.

We may switch to 4-4-2. Not sure we deffinatly will. If 5-3-2 is stable and we don't concede we're bound to score goals with Leon. Play to your strengths? Our strength is our defence. We'll see.

Ithink we should try the diamond formation, with Kinght as our last man. Hart and Henderson to join the link to midfield. What does everyone else think?

Bloody hell, you do know your football!

Sorry, that's really patronising. Personally I think Hart is too short to play a central role and is better suited out wide. The only player at the club I think is capable of playing behind the front two, a la Scholes, is Piercey. To honest though I think that's a little adventurous for Division 2.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Any talk of Knight anywhere but up front is stupid.
He would fast lose interest out wide.

Get back to 4-4-2 and get OGH back in the side sharpish !
