During Albion's long history, they have only played 13 times before on January 26 and we have rarely played Arsenal, so it's very strange that tomorrow will be the 3rd time we have met on this day.
Back in 1982 we drew 0-0 at Highbury on a cold, miserable day in a match that reflected the weather. The crowd was pretty low, pretty sure it was nearer 15,000 than 20,000 and Albion finished the day in 9th spot, looking down on Arsenal in 10th. Ipswich were top of the league, Saints 2nd. Yes this is Div 1, now known as Premiership!
two years previous Albion hated the site of Arsenal. having been thrashed at home on our Div 1 debut, we were hammered in the LC (after a draw) and then we only drew Arsenal again in the FA Cup. It was a pretty routine 2-0 win for Arsenal at Highbury & I think there were around 40k there/ Following that, we lost the league game at Highbury too, so 5 fixtures, no goals scored and 13 conceeded.
Please, Albion, give us a goal or 2 this 26th!
