just had a message come up telling me my data allowence is almost used up, any ideas what this means? i still have 2.6g left when i check my balance.

Could be that your 30 days of use is up?

If you are using vodafone, it's probably just a usage setting warning. Have a look in the View Usage tab and click on Set Limit. It's probably set at 500mb, just change the warning settings.
