For their time I'd say original Elm Street's were great horror...

Oh dear Algie, it appears that you are the one confused. What we need here is a distinction between your blood and guts horror and your psychological horror. The two can cross over as in the 28 Days Later film where there are your gore (disgusting) scenes and your creatures in the dark (disturbing) scenes. As Easy says there is hardly any gore in the Shining but it is a horror. Same as the Exorcist, Audition, Ringu etc...

A Thriller is a genre movie (cop film, spy film, adventure film etc...) that has adult themes and moments of high tension and drama.

I watched 28 Weeks Later the other night and found the ending a bit boring and a let down. Would have been nice to see how The Rage got from the kid into the population out in Europe.

The best scene in 28 Weeks Later was the helicopter scene. That was immense.

i must say, the first time i saw it i thought it was a pile of shit, but have since seen it again and i did enjoy it. I have to agree with Yoda, though. Would've preferred the ending to be 'bulked out' a bit more - perhaps that's to come in a possible sequel?

Sounds like your getting your film descriptions mixed up.I think what you like is a thriller not a horror.

Ringu is probably the scariest horror film ever and that's a 15 as there's not a voilence or blood.

I think you like 'slashers'

28 Weeks is totally brilliant, as is 28 Days. They're both suspenseful, a bit gory, but it's ok because its zombie gore, and as Mr 10 quite rightly said they both feature well writte, rounded characters.

As a bit of perspective, last night I watched 'Captivity' which is the worst film, horror or other wise, I've seen in ages. This despite it featuring Elisha Cuthbert.

I didn't think that much of 28 weeks later, I thought Land of the Dead was a better 'Zombie' movie.

I think that the Shining was a complete load of rubbish and hugely over-rated.
If you are after a suspense filled horror movie, you can't beat Alien or If you want blood and guts horror, then films like the first Saw or Texas chainsaw massacre - the beginning
