This is a bloke who had legions of British fans and yet he never played here. His soul visit to these shores was when he passed through on his way to Germany to do his National Service.

Bloke was a big, fat twat. I can't stand his music.

27 years ago today I was working as a gardener at Aldingbourne Hospital near Chichester - during Uni vacations - I remember Elvis' death as if it was yesterday. It came soon after Bing Crosby and also close to Marc Bolan.

Favourite Elvis song ... Love Me Tender

I have to say that I find the hero worship of his fans makes me feel very sorry for them.

My wife's first husband is a huge Elvis fan even though he was only 8 years old when 'The King' died. First time I met him I was sure he was off to a fancy dress party as apart from the outfit he had a huge and totally ridiculous quiff, made to look even more stupid by virtue of the fact that the guy is bald on the back of his head.

He really looked a fool.

Not quite. Bing crooned his last on 14 October 1977, after Elvis and Marc (16 sep 1977).

I don't carry dates of people's deaths in my head, I remeber Bing dying in my first couple of weeks of uni.

Couldn't stand Elvis I'm afraid, but then I only knew him as the bloated MOR perfomer.

When you consider that Cliff was the watered down but still quite outrageous, at the time, British version , Elvis was the quite cool really
