Chester were having problems at the time and the game was being televised.

Can’t recall much about it but there was also quite a presence from IMUSA, the Man United supporters instrumental in setting up FC United. A bloke called Andy Walsh spoke up at a meeting about the perils of bad ownership, but like I say my memory has failed me on this one but in answer to an earlier question there was certainly a Fans United element to this match.

Terry Smith took over in 1999 after Guterman. We played and lost to a team managed by Smith at the Withdean.

I did that too: Chester on a Friday night and stayed overnight to see Liverpool thrash Saints next day. We thought we ought to take in a match at Anfield while we were in the northwest because it was unlikely that we’d see the Albion play there other than if we were fortunate to get a rare cup draw. How times have changed……

Yes it was . I was there and remember a long scarf with all the English clubs attached being paraded . A Friday night fixture in January

That’s right, and a hell of a trek on a Friday. We had family living in the Wirral so were able to stay over after rather than face that drive back after.

I remember looking forward to that game at school all week thinking my team would be on Sky Sports on Friday! Everyone else supported United, Arsenal etc but I couldn't wait to watch us on telly at home! It was an awful game. Never looked liked scoring in a million years!

Was Albion v Doncaster on Feb 14 1998 deemed Fans United 2 (I know it was referred to as The Heart of Football) or was there another club that staged a Fans United between Feb 1997 and that Chester game?

I was there. Pretty sure it was a Friday night game. I remember their manager saying afterwards that Jamie Moralee was made from paper.

Absolute dross. We had some absolutely shocking footballers back then. Glen Thomas and Jamie Moralee as regulars! That’s not evening counting guys who could barely run that we gave LEAGUE starts to as essentially trial matches sight unseen - Mahoney-Johnson, Adekola, then desperate loanees like Valur Gislason, a man who looked absolutely terrified of the football.

Steve Gritt had never seen Mahoney-Johnson play, but he had nobody else and got him out of an old-fashioned “transfer list”.

Widely accepted as one of the worst professional football matches ever played in league history - 23rd vs 24th at the bottom in Division 3, neither side having a shot of any description. I read somewhere that the ball spent over 45% of time in the air. This is a phenomenal achievement.

Doncaster lost 34 of their games.

I believe it - I was there. So, so depressing even as a child who blindly loved my club no matter what.

The west stand is in wales, the other 3 are in england..thats why the directors box and offices are in the east stand (unusual in new build due to likelihood of sun being in the eyes of coaches and directors/guests)
