25 years since the Bradford fire

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I had absolutely no idea about the fire at Bradford until I (along with some friends) was shown a video of it as part of a training session to work at Wembley for some Uni beer tokens.

I couldn't believe my eyes.

For those that haven't seen it...

The only thing positive is that lessons have been learned. I mean really, why would a club just let garbage be left underneath a stand? Apart from obviously being a fire hazard, I am surprised people would put up with sitting on top of a pile of rubbish.

Terrible day.
Glad to see the BBC are giving it the coverage it deserves.
Bradford, Heysel, Hillsborough, all should never have happened, imagine going to watch the team you love and not coming back:nono:

Worthing
I always wonder how there were not more fatalities at football matches in the bad old days. I can remember leaving the back of the north stand at the Goldstone after a big evening game to exit the ground at the NW gates and then being crushed because no one had actually opened them. There were people in big trouble at the front as folk at the back were pushing and it was only that the gates were ripped off their hinges that saved people from serous injury at the very least that night.

RIP to all those poor poor people at Bradford that day. Those words from John Helm will never leave people who were around then.

Indeed. Have just watched the footage and I must say that I had forgotten just how horrific that fire was.

Sadly it took these disasters to highlight how badly football fans were treated in those days and for the powers that be to do something about it.

I remember grandstand going live to bradford as the events unfolded, them Heysel was live as the disaster unfolded. Also remember a girl at Uni being incredibly excited at getting FA cup semi-final tickets in 1989 - she didn't return from that game.

At least stadia are now safe, hopefully we will never have a disaster again.

I know a couple of guys who were at the game,in the Lincoln end. Both said how
unbelievable and horrific it was, both suffered nightmares for a while and one had to
receive councelling. A terrible and avoidable tragedy

Who remembers when the South Stand at The Goldstone went up in flames? It is awful seeing the names & ages of the poor souls who lost their lives in Bradford that day. RIP
