I have been addicted to it since it first began but like you say, it just isn't the same any more.

I have to say I'm quite surprised it has been axed, usually the americans manage to squeeze at least 5 series too many out of a show to really make sure it's dreadful before cancelling it.

Its run its course now, has had a "samey" feel about it for a few seasons now.

It always starts with Jack trying to go back to a normal life
A crisis erupts and he's drawn back in
Someone with some crucial information gets fatally wounded, dies before imparting it
Jack gets hold of someone and tortures the info out of them, despite being told not to by his superiors
CTU gets infiltrated / blown up
A mobile phone company gets a nice piece of ongoing product placement

EVERY series. I'm watching the current one, and its alright, but seen it all before. I'm hoping they're going to finish it off with an amazing SURPRISE of some kind. Maybe this time Jack could finally fail, the nuclear rods are successfully smuggled into New York, and everyone dies.

That'd be a BRILLIANT ending.

I think the last couple of episodes have been superb.

Still think it should probably take a bow, and leave stage left though, as the last couple of series have had more flat periods than previous ones which does suggest they are running out of steam.

Be interesting to see what the movie will be like, they're setting it in Europe I gather.
Hopefully it'll be better than the TV movie 24: Redemption, which I thought was a bit shit and smelt funny.

You missed a few:

Someone in CTU is working with the enemy feeding information to them
The wrong person gets arrested and interrogated
Jack gets tortured himself
The president ignores everyone else's advice and only listens to Jack
No one EVER eats anything or goes to the toilet (unless they have to make a secret phone call)

I think I covered your first point with:

CTU gets infiltrated / blown up

But fair play on all the others. We could also add:

Chloe will manage to get perfect satellite / CCTV coverage of whatever incident is playing out, wherever it is. Instantly.
Despite this, Jack will always say "DAMMIT Chloe" at least three times per season.
Although being in constant use for 24 hours, mobile phone batteries never run out. Ever.
Fortunately and coincidentally, every impending disaster seems to play out no more than a 20 minute drive from CTU.

On a similar note, the mobile phones they use are obviously connected to some kind of 5G network able to receive files in any format and download them in seconds.
Any kind of deadline will conviniently arrive at 5 minutes to the hour, just before the end of the episode

The latest series is a bit pants although I'm still watching it. I'm constantly amazed how hapless the Rozzers are portrayed. You know they are going to get wasted as illustrated in the last episode I watched

''I'm going in''
''Dammit fat copper, this is a CTU operation, stand down''
''Negative, intercepting targe......''
''Fat copper, come in''
''Dammit, Terrorist from made up country has dissapeared but we only have another 23 hours to fill now''

I think they should do what they do in Star Trek and get them to wear a uniform that signifies they will be dead in less than 5 minutes and start taking the piss a bit more.
