But those players have re-invested their wages in local casino's, cocktail bars, etc thus still helping the local economy!!!

Local strumpets are making a tidy sum too.

Regardless, that’s still £62m sloshing around the local economy. That’s £62m/£212m that would not have been available if the NIMBYs, naysayers, LibDems and other assorted opponents had won their argument. Humble pie to all of them - with lots gristle.

Couldn't agree more. Just good to know the is correct amount helping the local economy.

Fair point......but decent part of that would then be, for example, Dunky spending what must have been an absolute fortune on his house in Hurst, I bet using mostly local tradesmen.

And a further significant chunk into the till of Duffy’s local casino. Local car dealerships must be rubbing their hands as well.

Martin Perry certainly suits a beard. It’s knocked years off him.

Not heard much grumbling from the Swan at Falmer recently. Not a peep for years actually. Sitting on the same little matchday goldmine that the Preston Brewery Tap used to sit on in the Withdean era

Didn't The Swan change hands so the people running it are not the same as those who opposed the Amex?

Rumour has it (not sure how true) was that whoever he left the pub to was to maintain his stance of being anti football. Fast forward a few years and the pub is accommodating to football fans, has sky/BT and refurbished their barn to allow more people to visit the pub on match days.

How's the stats looking for vehicle/bat collisions? Seem to recall that was one of the more pressing concerns of the day for the elected representatives of Falmer village

Not sure about that. The original guy (John) had long softened his stance on the Albion. My wife and I go there a lot on Friday evenings in the summer and during construction he admitted it was exciting to see it develop.

Of which £150M went to the club itself, who spent most of this on transfer fees and players' wages. It's brilliant to see how far the club has come but stating £212M is in the local economy is hugely misleading.

The players are not investing much locally: they save a lot because their careers are short, they pay a lot of tax, the rent on their accommodation is not huge and they send a lot of money back home to wherever abroad they come from.

At the same time, fans' increasing their spending on tickets and merchandise means they have to reduce their spending on other things locally.

Not all Brighton fans live locally.

Ignoring the money paid to the club for tickets, or anything at the ground, my family spend in Sussex, per match day weekend is comfortably into three figures - all money that would have been spent in Winchester or the like.

They pay a lot of tax which includes council tax.

Employees spend money on food, clothes, local restaurants, etc Away fans often come for a weekend rather than just for the match.
