I finish my shift at 1430 in Trenchard Hall Officers Mess at RAF Cranwell. I have a ticket for the game, but Sergeant Kenneth Woods will not let me off duty early to go - even though SACW Susan Hill is willing to cover my duties.

Sitting at home looking after the kids as I'm out of work, skint and the wife is out shopping.

We walk from North Wembley station - find a pub. As we approach some yobs on the door (not bouncers) shout in through the door "5 Coffins Please" ....................... charming. We move on.

I am in my living room in Grasville Road Birkenhead, completly alone, knowing I am the only Brightonian on the entire Wirral Peninsula, watching the Build up, and wishing I had one of the great big Foam Rubber hands that all the Albion fans are wearing

We'd be in the ground by now, on the terrace after going through gate D9.

My dad made up a stool for me to stand on, that he could take apart and carry around in his bag; a bit of chipboard, about 9 inches square with square holes, and four bits of 2x2 wood that slotted in to them. Plus he had his Thermos with a glass inner bit, and a glass bottle containing milk for his tea.

Try getting into new Wembley with that lot.

Blimey, if it had been a few months later, I'd have been with you mate. I moved up to the Wirral in August 1983.

Instead, I was sitting in my front room back in Hove, dressed in British Caledonian shirt, shorts and socks, nervously biting finger nails. Terrible pressure for a ten-year-old!

Right. Finished work. Leg it down to my barrack block, change out of uniform, Albion shirt on and leg it over to the NAAFI.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word,
But as Thou dwell'st with Thy disciples, Lord,
Familiar, condescending, patient, free.
Come not to sojourn, but abide with me.

Come not in terrors, as the King of kings,
But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings;
Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea.
Come, Friend of sinners, thus abide with me.

Thou on my head in early youth didst smile,
And though rebellious and perverse meanwhile,
Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee.
On to the close, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

You look MUCH older. :jester:

If I'm 8 months from being born, I think my mother might have some problems, given the size of me.

:jester:

and we're off

We kick off kicking towards the tunnel end which is BHA everywhere and oooo my word look at that 'tackle' by Jimmy CAse on Bryan Robson. Bet that'll bring tears to his eyes.

.:eek:

Standing looking down on the pitch...United all over us at the moment.

Trying to move from side to side as someone in front of us has one of those huge banners that people like to bring into the ground.

My mate is eying up a couple of gobby Mancs stood just along from us and is gearing himself up to twat one of them ( this happens in about 15 minutes time)
