Thats off the top of my head, Wilshere, Rodwell, Gosling, far more players could be in there, and i know ill have forgotten others.

Is Gosling any good? What's his best position?

Or the right centre half of a back three.
Maybe, you have to wonder why no one uses a 3-5-2 seemingly at any level any more though?
At international would it be too much of a 'straight line' formation in the same way as 4-4-2 has been in this tournament (and for years in truth)?

I think we need to go with two deep lying midfielders, three in front, one striker. What Germany played today, though I've though this for quite a long time.

something like:
Hart
Johnson/Richards Onuaha Shawcross Gibbs
Huddlestone Rodwell
Walcott Rooney Johnson
Zamora

4-4-2 is to fragile a formation these days, us English have too much reliance on getting down the wings and crossing the ball, I bet you not one of the final 4 teams in the world cup will play a rigid 4-4-2.

Hardly anyone left NOW is playing it! In fact the only teams I can think of that do are Australia and America. Italy played it in one game.

I can think of one other who played it in every game...

I think the 4-4-2 is so deeply ingrained on players psyche from under 8's right through to English coaches at top clubs that the players now will just struggle tactically as opposed to our continental cousins. Technically and tactically we are just miles inferior.

At least we can dispense with that eternal question "Can Lampard and Gerrard play together?"

The only potentially top class English player that I can see coming through is Wilshere. Other than that I hold out no hope for the near future.

God I'm depressed (and a little drunk).

Have you been taking acid tonight?! I think my work team would put a few past that defence. Glen Johnson?!? I'd rather have Jack.

If you take out Rooney those players easily have less than 50 caps between them too. Zamora?!

Good choice of formation however.

Johnson was shite today but he's not a bad player, plus, how many good English rightbacks can you think of? Richards could replace him but he needs to regain form (and be played in the position), probably with a move. I was strugling for centrebacks as well, that Jones lad from Blackburn is a great call though. I think Onuaha is a good defender and quick as lightning, though not the greatest when he gets on the ball. Gibbs is the obvious succesor to Ashley Cole, though he should have at least another couple of years in him.

With Zamora, again, how many english strikers are there that can lead the line, run the channels, compete with defenders physichally and link up play intelligently?
