What a year it has been for this competition. 33 competitors came, and just two are left standing, waiting for judgement day.

Black Mamba

The Story So Far........Came into 2012 as the only snake qualifier and after impressing in qualifying was fancied to make a real impression on this tournament. He didn't disappoint, winning the notoriously tight Group C with 16 votes (20%). Was pitted against a very strong competitor in the Rhino, and in a closely fought battle, eventually came out victorious, winning 28-22. Some pundits have said that beating the Rhino is the perfect appetiser for taking on the Hippo. Went into that encounter with the Hippo and performed excellently. Few pundits gave it a chance against the former Champion but a late surge resulted in a dramatic 26-26 draw, with both coming through. Survived the Menage a Trois semi final against a former champion, Hippo, and a former finalist, Crocodile, gaining 32 votes (45%). The Black Mamba has come from nowhere to stand on the verge of greatness. Can he take that final step and join the Polar Bear, Hippo and todays opponent, the Orca is the Hall of Champions?

The Story So Far........The reigning champion came into 2012 with a lot of pressure on its sizeable shoulders. Placed in a tricky looking Group B, the king of the sea never looked in trouble, winning the group with 29 votes (28.71%). All eyes were on the champ when he faced the newcomer Tardigrade in the second round, however he avoided a giant killing as he came out with a 30-21 victory. Went into the quarter-final against its marine rivals the Great White Shark, never looked in trouble in what was an emphatic 37-13 win. Went into the semi final against the 'people's champion', the Honey Badger, and secured an absolute whitewash, gaining a whopping 62-44 win, and for much of the encounter had double the amount of votes. As champion it has had everyone trying to knock it of its perch, and yet has answered all questions thrown at it with ease. Can he join the Polar Bear as a multi-time champion?

Anyway, on the more important matter at hand... I can't see the Orca losing this one. It's been a valiant effort from our snake friend (having never got out of the group stage before) but this is like the probably-impending Liverpool v Palace Carling Cup Final - the giant will win out in the end.

As much as I would like a new winner, I've had to go for the dolphin. It beat the Honey Badger after all, and we all know that Honey Badgers kill snakes for fun. So it's a bit of a damp squib of a final really, it should have been the Orca vs the Honey Badger.

I would like to know which competitor received the most votes overall in the tournament. I have suspicions of some suspect voting patterns taking place.
