Seems to be a fair few comments stating that the £200k Forest have paid for Lynch is a pittance. Personally I believe we should have got a bit more.

Is £200k a good deal or a bit of a steal?

For a player who had no interest in playing for us? Bloody great deal imo

Didn't Dick turn down a bid from Stoke for him of FAR more than the pittance we just sold him for?

I guess my issue is how much a replacement would cost. We need someone who can cover left back. Something Lynch PROVED he could do in the league above.

I guess if it gets to the point where he wants out then our hand is forced and we take what we can get.

Would have been nice if it had never got to this sorry situation. Under Wilkins, Lynch and Elphick looked like blossoming into a hugely impressive young partnership.

Good deal imho if he does well and plays regularly that becomes 275k and then if he moves on for over a million were suddenly up to 500k plus, not bad for a player who could at times be a liabiliy but does have undoubted potential.
As for a replacement, as we are only looking for cover for Jimmy Mac, im sure Matt Richards would jump at the chance to come back, with the chance to fight for a place and he would cost the princely sum of £0.00

But he wants to leave. He was playing in championship in front of 25000 crowds etc, so why would he want to stay????

Point of order £200k plus 25% sell on.

= good deal.

He's an above average third division player who ought to be able to hold his own in the lower half of the Championship. Not much different to Harding really.

I'd take that deal based on the fact he doesn't want to play here.

I always felt he had the potential to be a very good centre half. If he gets anywhere near his potential then £200k will look like a bargain.

Unfortunately the damage was done a year ago, and after that he was always very unlikely to remain our player, and that situation affected how much we would get for him.

£75k for a season on loan last year, £200k + 25% sell on. Anyone that doesnt think this is a bargain for a want-away player who has never really shown much more potential than league 2 Jake Robinson needs their head checking

considering its £200,000 plus an extra £75,000 based on appearance, and a 25% sell on clause it seems a fair price. I expect we also got a small fee, maybe something like £25,000 when they first loaned him. and if in a few years he gets sold for £500,000 - £1million then with that sell on clause it is definitely a good bit of business.

Now we need to spend that money on a left back that actually wants to play for the club.

the thread title is a bit of a giveaway as to your views...I guess £275 + 25% sell on might encourage people to think it was a decent deal, especially as we already had £75K in loan fees last season.

That combined total of £350K with a healthy sell-on has to represent good business for someone who doesn't want to be here.

That said if he is happy and prepared to learn I can see him going on from Forest for up to a million in a couple of years time which will be a very welcome bonus for us if it happens. If he stayed here and was unhappy and became a troublemaker his later sell on value would quickly diminish to precisely nothing and he might never realise his potential

Everyone seems to have forgotten the number of slips when trying to tackle fast wingers; mistakes in midfield costing us goals and the penalties given away. Did not live up to either his billing or alleged potential.

Well after watching him in the last two friendlies (where he played awful) and the fact there is a hefty sell on clause then I feel it is a decent deal. To be honest I never thought he was half as good as people made out and I think Butters made him look better by offering a steady rock beside him. If you then however played Lynch with anyone else he would look nervous and not think about what he was doing.

I will always remember that shocker he had in the FA cup 3rd round when he basically lost us the game and I will also remember when he played at center back in Wilkins final season and he looked uninterested, not to mention the home game when he chipped the ball up and just headed it into the air straight to the opposition from which they scored and he was subjected to a torrent of abuse.

There however was a good side like the game away at forest when he was a rock and hit the bar from 40 yards and many other performances at left back and center back. For me he was inconsistent but could become good, very good.

£200k fee plus possible £75k plus last seasons loan fee of £75k means £350k profit for somebody who cost us nothing to me that is a good deal as it stands without the extra sell on possibility.
