Watching on TV, thought it was off immediately. Though not as close as it turned out to be. Walcott, he's quick.

Plus: I don't know where offside should be measured from. Because football's not a freeze-frame game, at least it hasn't been for over 100 years. Even if there's an Albion toe in line with Walcott, his body's further forward than anyone else's.

Watching on my stream I had no thought that it was offside whatsoever. After I had stomped around a bit - I was rather surprised to see it disallowed.

Three thoughts.

First, we've had a massive stroke of luck. But my god, if any team deserve it, it's us.

Second. VAR a disgrace again. How long did it take before anyone even had an idea it was being checked.

Third. If we have to have VAR, (and i'd bin in it's entirety), these offside lines should be abolished. Go with the onfield decision unless a clear and obvious error, which the ref, not someone else, has a chance to correct in one real time viewing

Thought there was a clear foul on Veltman in the build up.
I thought goal, but was hoping that VAR would look back at that very challenge and rule it out.

I didn't really see what happened in that incident, so was basing that hope more on the player reaction after the challenge, and the post goal protests to the ref, rather than anything i'd seen myself, meaning it was a very long shot, and realistically expecting it to be 2-2.

Offside didn't even cross my mind as a way to chalk it off

It's about time VAR gave us something! Just need a penalty or two against City now.
I like it - keep the goal difference down

i think i asked whether it was offside in my post on the match thread when the ball went in but it was more me clutching at straws - I really didn’t believe that finally after some really shitty VAR decisions for us this season, one would go our way at such a crucial point - Southampton went from believing (rightly so) that they were really back in it and could take the win but after that, they crumbled.

I love VAR 😂😂😂
And I hope that will end all the conspiracy talk (that we had on here a few weeks ago) about the big club bias.

Oh, hang on. No, yes. No. Yes, the decision went the way of the big club. Again!

It's a f***ing disgrace.

Ok, but exactly what counts as 'clear and obvious'? It has to be specific and measurable, otherwise we'll have a goal ruled out one week for it being 6" offside, and ManU will have one allowed the was a foot offside.

The problem is the linos have given up flagging on tight calls.
Seeing as we've had perfectly good goals ruled out by the offslide flag in recent seasons, i'm glad they don't flag anymore and leave it to VAR to review and decide. Didn't we have a potential goal of the season candidate wrongly ruled out last season due to an incorrect offside flag?

VAR again utter bullshit. Would have been extremely cross had that been against us.

Evens out some of the other equally ridiculous decisions against us earlier in the season, but further reinforces my hatred of the whole stupid exercise.
Really?

Today I almost laughed my tits off. (Proper, as opposed to Wet-Sham-silly) European football slipping through my wizened, gnarled, needy fingers, then Bosh! VAR decides that I can, I can, I can have my hopes and dreams back.

I was so happy that I literally inhaled previous screaming and screaming, until all the sick just . . . . went away.

Does little dance. :rave: :rave: :rave:  🤣

Other than Lewis Dunk, was there anyone else in the entire stadium who thought there was even a vague possibility that there second goal could be ruled out?
Nope. I was in full stride calling them all the c***s under the sun to the person next to me, before it came up on the screen.

Er - we scored a perfectly good goal, on-field it stood, then VAR incorrectly ruled it out.
