1970s telly

I am hoping that you; my fellow misfits, will be able to help me with this question (I have tried googling it but dont really know what to type in so thought I would pose the question in its entirety) -

Was there in the mid - late 1970s a programme on the telly about a bloke in America driving around in big red lorry with white stripes on it with a monkey / chimp as his companion (im not talking about the Clint Eastwood and Clyde shite films here)? I recall it being on on a sunday lunchtimes and the theme tune went something like ' BJ McCabe/McCain and this is my best friend bear'.

Or have a dreamt this whole scenario up?

Your help would be much appreciated.
