1901 Club

How do people feel about the fact that there will be a DRESS CODE for the gold and platinum seats?

... "helping to create an atmosphere of understated elegance".

In every other context I've ever come across, "smart casual" means "no football shirts, no jeans, no trainers". What will it mean at Falmer?

Platinum may be like this as the marketing people proudly tell you that you can eat your meal whilst watching the game. But I don't think there is any real sit down dining for Gold - just bars and buffet style food in the main. But I really don't know why so many people get so hung up over less than 10% of the capacity. At Withdean, corporates take their seats late and the amount of people that miss the last 5 minutes of the first half to queue for a manky burger or return 5 minutes into the second half like NSC's hero Peter Canning is rather large. The upshot is that a few hundred of the 1901 club will probably be there for the football as a second priority. The bulk will be there for the football as the main priority and the club as a whole will have an insignificant effect on the perceived "atmosphere".

I don't think anyone will be able to eat and watch the match at the same time.

Last year I was asked by a marketing team by phone what I wanted the corporate to be like. I said that personally I don't like the idea of having to have a three course meal every saturday when I really just want to watch the footie. I don't mind a meal of some sort on weekdays but most saturdays I like to go out after and an afternoon meal is too much.

I wanted to support the club but have the choice of having a nothing, a snack, a meal or a corporate affair from time to time. I wanted to be able to have my football exactly as I wanted it on each individual game a bit like how it used to be. I thought it would be great to meet my mates before and after the match in pubs and bars before or even outside or in a concourse and then go and watch the match from a good seat that I will always be at. If there was still standing I would probably stand. From my point of view that encompassed all that was good and only a bit of what I think is the corporate stuff that is vital for Falmer and the albion to do well (survival is not an option).

I must have been one of many asked and I'm really pleased the club seems to have taken on board what I and others have said. I'm sure the other sections of the ground will do the same for supporters across the club.

From what I have seen ever part of the club and new ground is being really well thought out and I can't see why anyone should be moaning yet. I know for a fact that other clubs have been coming to see the set up and the way the ground is being built and marketed so we should be proud of it.

I never miss the start of games and I never leave early, I don't mind a bit of corporate talk but TBH I go to watch the match and during the game I make a point of not talking too much. I actually can't stand some of the drivel I hear from some of the guests that come for just the beano. But in todays current football climate the club needs money from corporate sponsors to operate. I much rather see the local corporate support we have rather than the coca cola, Nike, Ford global crap that destroys local support.

The North stand and corporate section at Withdean had no chance of ever being the same as the west at the Goldstone. Lets face it most of the people there are just the equivelent of the old west stand and the close proximity of the directors ours and away does mean you have to be a bit more reserved. Hopefully Falmer will solve all those problems and we will get more real football and albion talk.

Having said that I have heard just as much drivel whan I have sat on occasion in the south from people who only go to a few games so it seems that it can occur anywhere.

Without knowing much about the 1901 club, basically because I'm not that interested, have the club missed a trick? Say we get to the premiership in the next 5 years they have sold pretty much all the 'corporate' tickets so won't be able to rake in any more money from the inevitable influx of companies that want to be involved which potentially will cost the clubs millions (expect his has been done to death before so sorry!).

Given that none of us will be getting a soaking like at Withdean I'm sure a slightly smarter approach will not be a problem ..they will need to define smart casual as I have had problems at Horse Racing with "smart casual"

The idea is to give current funders of the club the opportunity ...some of those may sell giving others the chance to come in

I have always suspected Lord B to be a hoolie - now he wants to let Casuals in

But the money won't go the club will it, it will go the individual who originally brought the ticket. Got no problem with that or why the club are doing it, just seems a bit shortsighted to me but expect the club know better than me!

just the response I was looking for. A well reasoned thoughtful answer. Thank you

Sorry but its a rather silly view.

1) We need all sections sold NOW -Falmers not THAT big!

2) Most (but not all) have supported the club through the thin and you are suggesting ditching them now.

3) Personally I want success but I don't want the club to sell its soul like Man U and Arsenal.

4) The boxes are sold 1-2 years and most seats will be up for grabs in 5 years.

5) Stuff the companies that want to get involved if we make the prem, the TV money should be enough.

Its not a view it was a question. I don't think I suggested ditching anyone either. As for number 4 I thought they were for 5 years or life but thank you for correcting that. See it wasn't difficult to write an answer now was it.

According to the marketing team jeans will be allowed. Will be interesting to see if a Brighton shirt is effectively banned in it's own stadium!!

Sorry but it didn't come over as a question.

Just to clarify

I understand the SEATS are for 5 years or life. I was told the boxes have been sold for 1-2 years but its possible someone may have done a deal for more.

Hats will be banned throughout the whole stadium and singing and chants will only be at the descretion of the stewards.

We may be asked to kneel on some occasions too

When I attended the presentation we asked if there was a dress code. They said what we were wearing would be fine. For the record I was wearing jeans, t-shirt and trainers. Replica shirts would not be permitted except possibly for children.

The no football shirts rule didn't put me off as I never wear one, but I can see how some people may not be happy with this. If there was a no trainers or jeans rule it would have definitely put me off.

I was standing next to Uter and looking pretty buff in my vintage leather jacket, new dark-denim 501s, Adidas Harvards and t-shirt ensemble.

So no football shirts in the corporate area - excellent gimmick if ever I saw one.

All the very good reasons to be in the stand opposite
