According to government estimations there are about 100 000 people in this country who flatly refuse to work.

Those figures are wrong. There are many more than that, as well as the malingerers on incapacity benefit.

I say root them out and let them starve.

Any one still unemployed after a year should be .....................
............................................. well.

Anyone remember Soylent Green. That would feed the poor in Africa.

if you let them starve, then I'd guess that they probably wouldn't be very well at all.

How do you know this? How can you possibly claim to be more knowledgeable than the government on this?

If you cut people's benefits then they will resort to crime to survive.

The costs of the extra policing required and subsequent encarceration will be more than the benefits that were originally paid out.

That sounds like blackmail to me. Pay me benefits for doing bugger all or I will mug some grannies.

You see the problem there? "according to [the] government]" clearly means it is entirely untrustworthy.

After all, if anyone refuses to work - or expresses that refusal to the DSS, the only body capable of counting these figures - then he or she loses his or her benefit. Thus, there is no-one in this country on benefits who has "refused' in any meaningful, or countable, way to work.

The figure is actually those on unemployment benefit for ten years or more. One of those is a woman I know who lives in a village with no bus service and no employers, has lost nearly all of her sight because of a congenital condition, cannot get a driving license because of her poor sight, but was turned down for incapacity benefit because she can see enough to work. What options does she have? She can't afford to move privately, and she's been on the council house waiting list for years (during which time most have been sold off). What are her options? You would have her starve. She would rather not. You're a twat. She's not.

We live in depressing times though when anybody who draws benefit without first actually turning up at a benefit office barefoot and showing signs of malnutrition should be either a) shot, or b) sent back to where they came from, or c) both. Bit disappointed with young Mr Titanic's response.

Plenty of vacancies for work in Ipswich now for the lazy, scrounging cow.
Poor sight no problem in that line of work either.

On a serious note though they should all be sterilised so they cannot breed. Because their offspring will grow up to be scroungers as well.

Scrounging is hereditary.
