Maybe both countries having less than a quarter of the amount of new cases that we've had over the last 7 days has something to do with it.

Had we managed to control the virus at a reasonable level we would be returning to grounds at a 25% capacity as well as planned. Our government has failed to do the same so we can't.

It was in Gdansk not Warsaw as well.

And our government has had several times the resources Poland has to get to grips with the situation

Talking to my colleague at the weekend who is Polish, she said they're not doing anywhere near enough testing at the moment and cases are still rising. She's really worried that the situation is a lot worse than it currently looks.

Maybe just maybe they think managed properly, getting 10000 people in and out of an outdoor stadium that has 40000 capacity (25% full) can be managed without the entire stadium getting COVID.

Or maybe their country can organise a piss up in a brewery, unlike ours.

Maybe.
Still it’s an inescapable truth that the unbridled incompetence of UK management of the virus is reflected in sharp focus by the return to nearer normality of other nations

Quick answer from Poland:
1. Italy was in Gdańsk, not Warsaw
2. Since May or sth, we are allowed to have 25% capacity in the open venues. It really does the job
3. Since August we had an attempt on 50% in Ekstraklasa and Speedway Ekstraliga, yet now because of a rocketing rise in cases the goverment withdrew to 25% again (just 2 days ag). But there is no evidence that there is some serious virus transmission at the games given a) outside venues b) saferty measures and distancing. Here the biggest problem are weddings and bars, where there's no way ppl woudn't touch, dance, drink, talk closely etc., maybe shops or queues at the doctor's + the houses for the elderly and hospitals (the biggest transmission).

Ergo = if one wants it, it is feasible with a shred of a good will

What are they doing differently to us?

Watched the NFL last night and quite surprised to see fans in some stadia. Kansas City have had them in all games and averaged around 13,000 in the ground. State of Missouri new cases have hovvered between 1000 and 3000 ish a day recently.

I've no idea of the actual dos and don'ts in Missouri but I'd hazard a guess there's more freedom there. However, I can't imagine somewhere in the mid west having a party scene like Liverpool when the football and students return, nor population density in the same way parts of Leicester do (for example). Hospitals there don't seem to be overwhelmed. So maybe they are allowing what they feel to be realistic given their current infection rates, hospitalisations and population make up in order not to overwhelm healthcare. Which is, really, what we're doing here.

I agree in as much it does appear that Europe has more folks willing to tow the line, unlike the vast amount of selfish ####s we have here.

Maybe they have a population that are more likely to follow the advice and restrictions given out by the Government that we have here, and this is why we have had a worse outbreak and more cases.

People here not social distancing, not wearing face coverings in Supermarkets, shops and on public transport, illegal gatherings and raves, etc, etc.....all doing the opposite of what the Government here has said they should do, and all helping the virus thrive and spread around the UK simply because too many are selfish and bloody minded to agree to and follow some simple instructions designed to keep the people safe, but lets pin it all on the Government

Felt a bit surreal hearing 10 000 Russians in the friendly against Sweden.

The game was supposed to be played in Sweden, but our government didnt allow the Russian team to come here because they are a "red zone", and unlike everyone else we refuse to do exceptions for "sports people", so our team had to go there instead.

Pretty much shows that our percieved "laissez-faire" take on covid is a bit of an oversimplification. Was pretty nice to hear some human life from the stands though, in big enough stadiums it should be possible to do safe enough social distancing. Maybe if it works out well in the east, western governments might be more fine with it. Lets hope.
