Albion's pre-season campaign gets underway tonight with a friendly against Eircom Division One side Athlone (7.45pm).
Micky Adams intends to give every player who has made the trip to Ireland a run-out, but Glenn Murray (foot), Doug Loft (foot) and new signing Kevin McLeod (tight hamstring) have all picked up minor injuries and will sit out proceedings as a precaution.
The Seagulls boss has been pleased with his squad's progress during pre-season, but says tonight's match will provide the first real opportunity to fully assess his players.
"Athlone are midway through their season so we're sure they'll be very fit," he told seagulls.co.uk.
"We're looking at a game where perhaps everyone will get 45 minutes, and I'll learn something about the players from a performance point of view rather than just seeing them in training.
"You can do as much training as you want on the training ground, but you don't really find out about players until they're put in a game situation.
"Some of the players I haven't worked with before, so it will be interesting to see how they are in a game."
AFC Wimbledon trialist Michael Haswell will feature at left-back, but Adam El-Abd has remained in Brighton to be with his expectant girlfriend.
Albion squad: Kuipers (GK), Sullivan (GK), Haswell, Elphick, Lynch, Hawkins, Whing, Cox, Livermore, Fraser, Thomson, Chamberlain, Fogden, Wills, Virgo, Gargan, Forster, Dixon, Robinson.
