Just reading Simster's comment about Fleetwood Mac earlier made me think of which of the two successful era Fleetwood Macs were the best for you?

The blues band from the late 1960s: Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, John McVie, Danny Kirwan and Mick Fleetwood.

Mid 1970s - late 1980s: Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, Christine Perfect and Mick Fleetwood.

Or some other period?

The former for me - Oh Well part 2 is a fantastic piece of music, topped only by Man of the World.

Peter Green, a genius.

'Then Play On' was brilliant. I have everything P.A. Green did back then, including singles backing his band's manager, with Mayall and The Bluesbreakers, The Peter B's with Pete Bardens, and when he backed blues legends Otis Spann, Memphis Slim, Eddie Boyd.

I dunno how many people I've informed that 'Black Magic Woman' was NOT written by Santana. All time fave recording by F.Mac (named after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie) is 'Need Your Love So Bad', a retreatment of a Little Willy John tune, which I've sung myself a couple of times (also done the excellent 'Stop Messin Around' with a band too).

Peter Green played at The Dome as support to Mayall, a couple of years ago - and I met him in the interval when he was signing stuff. It was good to see him back from the dark ages, submerged beneath the acid 'mire' that had him down and out for so long. He still plays brilliant guitar, but he doesn't 'strut' and do it with volume. Just tasteful runs and augmentations with his band.

The earlier one for the music

The mid 70s one for Stevie Nicks

Absolutely !!
I saw her at the Rainbow on the Rumours tour - pervs that we were we went and got centre seats on the front row. God she was gorgeous <drool>

Musically the first were better though - I've since seen the shadow of his former self that is the "new" Peter Green on a number of occasions. He can still play the blues though

I went up to the Rainbow for that show too. Yer, Ms Nicks in her long white stockings and chiffon stuff eh? Then she became a rug-munching lezzer, indeed.

Both line ups had their merits and bearing in mind how different they were it's hard to make a choice. Granted now the second version sound very bland but at the time they were quite something. The original version is now legendary and maybe that blur people's opinions as they were not as good as we remember.

After the girls arrived but before the crappy Tango in the Nıght rubbish. Chains is a classic.

I like both and it really depends on what mood I'm in as I still play both, so fence for me.

For feel good summer/driving music incarnation 2 everytime, for sitting around lazily listening in the evening or on a dark winter's day incarnation 1

Very much the first option. Oh Well, Man of the World, and Green Manalishi were all among the greatest songs of their era and I still love them today.

As pointed out above Fleetwood Mac 2 only had one redeeming feature -- or sometimes more than one, depending on what angle you were ogling her from.

I thought Rumours was probably the best album I ever bought. every track I can still listen to now.

On the other hand, Tusk IMHO was dreadful....I was so dissapointed when I got that one home....

I don't see how I can vote as I appreciate both versions/line ups of the group even though they are fundamentally different in line ups and style. The original blues based Fleetwood Mac were brilliant, and I wish I'd kept their album, "The pious bird of good omen" , and I agree with NMH, "Need your love so bad" is an all time classic. However, "Rumours" is equally good IMHO and is one I constantly play in my car, and I always fancied Christine McVie, so there!
