It's a logarithmic scale, so a straight line means cases are going up by multiples, e.g. doubling every 2, 3 or 4 days, rather than even steps of, say, 100 per day

Positive spin: all it shows is that there is lag of approximately 3 days between the numbers being announced and the actual numbers, which is totally understandable in a crisis situation. But if the numbers are following the same curve then it doesn't mean a higher peak, just that we would hit...

The official Corona virus C**T list

Crikey. I just read that as a light hearted comment (Dad's Army reference?) that 'Big Brother' is watching and your name was added to a list of dissidents for your radical anti-royalist rhetoric (which I agree with, so I am also on the list!) I don't think they were implying you were added to...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

This article by a Cambridge Virologist seems pretty well informed and considers it very unlikely that the virus arrived earlier than assumed. Much more likely people had a more standard winter bug that they are now falsely attributing to the coronavirus...

Their curve actually appears to be getting steeper which, on a graph with a logarithmic scale, is very bad news

I didn't read it that way, to me he's just offering a reason why the number seems weirdly low. I genuinely don't see the ulterior motive you clearly do, but we'll have to agree to disagree I suppose.

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I don't read it that they are suggesting that the numbers are being changed in the government's favour, just stating a (presumed) fact that the government are looking at changing the way numbers are reported (possibly as a result of the difficulty of getting reliable numbers in a crisis...

Assume it's to do with the colour of the kit, hence black and white to represent Newcastle, but it's a bit of a weird thing to do

Given that those people will have been without tv of any kind for the last 7 years it would seem an odd complaint to make ???

[Albion] Percy Tau - SIGNED on a 4 year deal - The Lion Returns. RRROOOAAAARRRRR

Countries set their own requirements for obtaining a work permit. The requirements in Belgium, for example, are much less stringent, so it is easier for a non-EU footballer to obtain a permit to play there. Similarly different countries have different rules on gaining citizenship. So the club...

In these globalised times, it is very confusing that their team nickname is The Brazilians

[Football] Shaqiri - Deal of the day

Absolutely agree, and suspect I worded my comment poorly. As I see it, Liverpool have adapted their style to play without a Coutinho-type player (and proved pretty successful at it), so I didn't mean that Shakiri was Coutinho's replacement in that they would now revert to the way they played...

[Football] Shaqiri - Deal of the day

Good job he's cost less than 10% of the Coutinho fee then! I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Liverpool, but I'm fairly sure Coutinho played quite a lot of games as a 'wandering' winger, so they're not totally incomparable.

[Football] Shaqiri - Deal of the day

They've also received about £150 million back from the Coutinho sale though (who presumably Shakiri is the effective replacement for)
