It's this quote from Bozza on the barber/holloway on talkshite thread that has me really spooked...
"Quite pointed from Holloway, as expected, on the sacking of Hughton.
Barber's response largely hinging on a belief that Hughton didn't get the best out of the (new) players he had."
Kin Hell.
No doubt it will save millions if it works. And perhaps it will.
If it were your club, and your money - would you be buying now, just in case it’s the case that they really are pony/have had their confidence irretrievably broken (delete to taste)?
If that’s Chris’ fault, and Potter does get the best out of them, we’ll have a good season and Tony’s decision will be proven to have been correct.
If it’s because the players simply aren’t as good as we thought, and Tony doesn’t recruit additional players as (at least) insurance to mitigate...
Yes, I agree. Even if he knew his days were numbered, he did little to change the mindset. Sometimes however people facing what they perceive as insurmountable odds become ever more cautious (or perhaps he just thought that was the best way of achieving his goal). Sometimes they give up -...
That’s a mighty big assumption there. One that’s not true. I am pointing out, as others have done, that by his own definition, he’s a failure.
What do I think? I think that Tony knew that there would be internal ructions when he appointed him - there nearly always are when a Technical Director...
This is broadly where I am.
There is one further possibility: that Tony et al believe that, despite being cheap in PL terms, Locadia, Ali J, Andone, and 2-3 U23s have been sadly overlooked and poorly managed; with the right management we’ll be able to keep the payroll the same (broadly) but...
And it for this reason that I think that it’s actually more likely that Bruno would have stayed had he known Potter would be appointed than if he thought Chris was staying. Whether it’s likely that Tony would pay PL wages for such a role has to be doubtful though, as is the question about...
Yep.
I still think we have more chance of finishing 10th in the PL in 2 seasons’ time under Potter than we would have done under Hughton. But also a greater chance of finishing 10th in the Championship.
The very definition of “more risk”.
Not a good thing, not a bad thing - just a thing.
