And people moaning about Poyet's derisory offer should realise that, once he and the director of football have sat down and identified targets, Poyet will have next to nothing to do with the bidding process.
Couldn't agree more.
Baffled by the criticism of him as trying to destabilise our season as well. He isn't. He is trying to sign players he knows, trusts and rates highly. It isn't as if he is the first manager to ever go back to a former club to try and sign players.
Also, I guess we don't know what was said when Crystal Palace bid in pre season. For all we know he might have been given assurances by the club they wouldn't stand in his way if another Premier League club came in for him later.
I have always thought around the £3million mark is about right.
People need to appreciate the silly money spent on Wilfried Zaha and mentioned for people like Will Hughes is as much paying for their potential as the player they are at present. Bridcutt is in his mid twenties so not as much room...
I don't have a problem with Bridcutt wanting to leave. I completely understand it.
I just don't like players trying to force the hand of the club by handing in a transfer request in a bid to get the club to sell for less than their valuation of the player.
And yes, by doing so he may well...
I don't think I underestimate his importance. I certainly think he has improved his game a lot recently and, as I said, I would rather not lose him. But, in my opinion, Ashley Barnes is not a player on who our promotion chances rest. A good player. An improving player. But not in the same league...
If Barnes isn't about to sign a new contract I think people are being a little short-sighted to say it is good news if Burnley have given up.
I would prefer him to sign a new deal and stay but if not, it is sound business sense - particularly for a club likely to post annual losses of more...
That has certainly been my take on it. Poyet would know whether Bridcutt was up for the move or not. If he wasn't, I can't see Sunderland wasting their time by bidding.
I guess how impressive the six goals were depends on who else was in the Spurs team. They have quite a few decent midfielders etc who might be a bit too good for a Charlton 11...
I wonder if we are still looking at him as a potential loan striker.
He scored six goals today for Spurs in a friendly with Charlton so would appear to be fit again.
Don't know much about him.
In an ideal world Barnes would not be out of contract in the summer and we would keep him.
But, presumably, he will be looking for guarantees about his place in the first team, possibly in his preferred position. With Mackail-Smith coming back and Ulloa our number one striker, will get those...
I thought Ashley Barnes had a decent game yesterday. One of the better players certainly. But scores of eight upwards? I think people are over-generous on here sometimes.
I wouldn't give anyone more than a seven. Reading were poor. We played quite well.
