[Politics] Does it matter where constituency candidates come from?

But you're a big Bottomley fan (that sounds worse than intended ) and he was 'parachuted' in over local prospects

That would be brilliant if it is the case

[Politics] Does it matter where constituency candidates come from?

It's a factor and to me, a major one at local elections. But for GE's where we are electing a Government to run the whole country, less so. There have been numerous examples of candidates who had no local connections turning out to be excellent hard working, local MPs including the one we...

[Music] Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe.

Nearly 35 years ago we supported them on a few gigs on this tour (sadly long after Wilko had gone). On the first night, we got an encore, Lee Brilleaux came through to our dressing room and thanked us for a 'great set' and we were feeling really pleased with ourselves. They then went on, opened...

    [Football] Euros 2024 - Matchday 3

If it's all about which players, substitutions etc how come that starting 11 played Serbia off the pitch first 20 ? The players are obviously capable so what happened ? First 20, they put in the effort, closed down, pressed high, all those basic things that make teams good. (Still remember...

    [Football] Euros 2024 - Matchday 3

It seems that England have managed to put out 10 players, all of whom are incapable of putting in the effort or sprinting in order to create a high (or medium) press. Now I do love a bit of traditionalism but it's almost as if the last 10 years of football tactics development never happened

    [Football] Euros 2024 - Matchday 3

Making Rice sit 5 yards in front of the CBs when you have CBs with the footballing ability of Stones and Dunk is always overly 'safety first' and a complete waste of a good player (or major parts of 3 good players to be pedantic)

    [Politics] General Election 2024 - 4th July

My two (late 20s) have both managed to buy (or currently buying). One has got a house with their partner in Swindon (where we are currently dog sitting) and the other a flat in central London. But those were both with very good salaries and significant help with the deposits from us. I really...

Roy Wood - just about OK ? His songwriting and vocals with The Move, ELO and Wizzard may prove differently and you've forgotten Denny Laine completely  And just to round off with the actual subjects of the thread, Nick Lowe is from Surrey and Dave Edmunds is welsh. All round, a superb...

[Music] Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe.

The Stiffs live tour at the Top Rank had Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe as the opening act, but they did have to fit Elvis Costello and Ian Drury onto the bill as well. You could see brilliant bands at pubs all round the South East back in the day. Or failing that, Me and @£1.99

    [Politics] General Election 2024 - 4th July

Obviously a talented young thing with some serious financial backing. I think he was lucky to find himself in prime position when Johnson had kicked out or alienated all the serious conservative politicians, just a shame that when it came to the crunch, like so many of Johnson's Brexit cabinet...

    [News] Nigel Farage and Reform

After the last couple of days of 'Reform overtakes Conservatives' headlines, I saw today that in a single poll Reform were 1 point ahead. On the average of all the polls they are still 8 points behind the Conservatives. Funny that I haven't seen any articles to that effect

    [News] Nigel Farage and Reform

I've never voted for any party that I believe has got everything right, and I've never fully backed someone's ideas. It's always voting for the least worst. Obviously it's your call, but I've always seen not voting as saying you're happy with the current incumbent

    [Albion] Lallana On Brighton Departure

Obviously a big influence around the club and in games early on in his time here, but maybe (albeit with hindsight) a three year contract was a year too long, as he seemed to fall off a cliff this season playing wise. I'm surprised he got another year in the Prem, even if it is Southampton ???
