There were some earthworks done on the Ouse Valley Line before the plug was pulled. You can see them along Copyhold Lane near the Balcombe viaduct, and at the Uckfield end in fields to the west of the bypass.

When I lived in Toronto in the 70s they would stick large notices to the centre of windscreens of illegally parked cars on private land such as apartment building car parks. Strong glue and very difficult to remove so you certainly didn't park there again. No fine, but extremely effective.
